Karylle, Sam Concepcion and more to sing Disney favorites in concert
The ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra, with musical director Gerard Salonga, will stage ‘Disney In Concert: Tale as Old as Time’

MANILA, Philippines – Celebrities Karylle, Sam Concepcion and Morissette lead a list of performers who will interpret some favorite songs from your childhood in  Disney in Concert: Tale as Old as Time with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra, under the musical direction of Gerard Salonga.

To be staged at the CCP Main Theater on November 8 and 9, Tale as Old as Time will showcase the songs from Disney classics, plus music from the newer movies, like Tangled and Frozen

DISNEY CLASSICS. The ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra will perform songs from Disney

Karylle, Sam and Morisette will sing songs from Cinderella, Princess and The Frog, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, Frozen, Aladdin and more. Karylle will do Cinderella, Sam will sing Beauty and the Beast with Morisette, a song from Tangled and The Jungle Book, while Morisette aside the duet from Sam, will sing a song from Mulan.

Joining them are theater veterans and singers Caisa Borromeo, Carla Guevarra-Laforteza, Antonio Ferrer, Jillian Ita-as, and Red Concepcion, with the special participation of Bituin Escalante. Julia Concio and Camille Santos will also appear in the show.

During a sneak preview last Friday, October 24 at the Dolphy Theater, Sam talked about how the group is looking forward to the whole experience.

“It’s a different experience, of course, hearing all our favorite Disney songs live with a full orchestra. I think this is what people will come for. It really comes to life and when we were singing, it’s almost like listening and hearing live to all the Disney songs in front of you,” he said.

Mickey Muñoz, the orchestra’s managing director, said that this is the first show that Disney has allowed where all singers are local talents. The past productions of the show always had singers from the United States to sing in the show.

Musical director Gerard Salonga said they expect viewers to sing along to the classics.

“Old Disney films have that old Hollywood vibe because that’s what it sounded like, and now it’s pop-Broadway because Broadway shows are pop-sounding…it has evolved,” he said.

“The kids still like it and they still like Cinderella and Snow White. Beauty and the Beast is cool and the characters are great,” he added. – Rappler.com
