MTRCB calls GMA 7’s attention on ‘The Rich Man’s Daughter’ dialogue
The board summons GMA executives, the show writers and director regarding the July 8 episode of the show

MANILA, Philippines – The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has summoned GMA 7 executives over an episode of the teleserye The Rich Man’s Daughter starring Rhian Ramos and Glaiza de Castro.

In a letter dated July 20 and signed by MTRCB chairman Toto Villareal, those who were called were Jose Mari Abacan, vice president for program management, Suzette Doctolero, head writer of the show, Nieva Sabit, executive producer, Rosie Lyn Atienza, associate producer, Lore Reyes, director and writers Geng Delgado, Jason Lim, and Paul Sta. Ana.

According to the letter, they were called to a mandatory conference Thursday, July 23 regarding the July 8 episode of the show. In the said episode, Glaiza’s character Althea talked to her friend Wila about how Jade, played by Rhian denied their relationship in front of her “Angkong” or grandfather.

The line goes: Ganyan talaga ang pakiramdam ng kabit. At saka pag kaharap ang pamilya, idedeny ka talaga.” (That’s what a mistress goes through. And when you are in front of the family, you won’t be recognized.)

The MTRCB said that the dialogue was for a mature audience.

“The above-quoted strong language in regard to marriage is obviously meant for a mature audience. Such sensitive language by its nature, has to be explained to young viewers. If left unexplained, it cuts into the dignity and integrity of marriage, which is a protected institution under the Constitution. Under these considerations, the scene is beyond the program’s granted rating of “PG” (Parental Guidance),” the letter read.

GMA 7 has yet to release a statement regarding the results of the mandatory press conference.

The Rich Man’s Daughter tells the story of Jade Tanchingco, the only daughter of a wealthy Filipino-Chinese family. She meets Althea and her life and the beliefs she used to have changes as they fight for their blooming relationship. – Rappler.com
