Bea Alonzo addresses Zanjoe Marudo breakup rumors

MANILA, Philippines – Bea Alonzo denied that she and boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo have called it quits. In a recent press conference for her upcoming movie with Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta titled The Love Affair, the actress said that they are both happy in their relationship, despite going through some tough experiences. 

“Happy naman kami. Responsibilidad mo sa sarili mong maging happy ka,” she said. 

(We’re happy. You are responsible for yourself when it comes to happiness.)

Bea and Zanjoe, who have been dating for years, recently faced persistent breakup rumors. Bea admitted that they encountered problems just like any other couple, but quickly added that they were working on it. Bea and Zanjoe were recently together in a trip to London. 

“May mga pinagdadaanan naman tayo lahat, ‘di naman mawawala ‘yan. Pero ang pinakaimportante is kung paano mo i-handle ‘yung sarili mo pagkatapos ng lahat ng ito. We are working it out and masaya kami.” 

(We all have problems, but what is important is how we handle the challenges. We are working it out and we are happy.) 

Media also asked Bea about claims that she has moved on from Zanjoe and has since started dating her former Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon co-star Paulo Avelino. Rumors started circulating online when the two were spotted having dinner together. The actress did not deny that she and Paulo went out but added that Zanjoe knew about it. 

“Lumabas naman talaga kami. May mga kaibigan naman ako na mga lalaki din so definitely it wasn’t a date.” 

(We really went out. I have other guy friends [aside from Paulo] so definitely it wasn’t a date.)  

Paulo also denied dating Bea in other interviews. 

Bea on playing Adie

In The Love Affair, Bea plays the role of Adie, who is searching for happiness after a failed relationship. The actress revealed that she has learned more about herself playing her character.

“Marami akong natutunan sa character [ko] sa totoo lang. Meron akong mga eksena na ginawa dito na na-realize ko, ‘Oo nga napagdaanan ko rin yun.’ Na narating ko rin pala ‘yung rock bottom. Maybe I was in denial kasi merong mga parte ng buhay natin na pa-strong tayo di ba? But I’m a better person because of those challenges.”

(I learned a lot about myself through my character. I realized that I had similar experiences with her, that I also reached rock bottom. Maybe then I was in denial since I wanted to act strong. But I’m a better person because of those challenges.) 

Director Nuel Naval shared that the actors played a big part in the conceptualization of the film. He said that Richard, Dawn, and Bea all used their respective experiences in their past relationships in order to do justice to their roles.  

When asked what Bea learned from her past relationships, Bea shared that she learned that one must first be happy before he or she becomes involved with another person. 

“Kailangan mo muna maging buong buo bago ka magmahal ng ibang tao. You cannot give happiness to others if you yourself are not happy.”
