MANILA, Philippines – The “Eternal Love Team” of Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta returns in the highly anticipated movie The Love Affair, much to the delight of their fans young and older. After their comeback teleserye Walang Hanggan back in 2012, Dawn and Richard will once again play husband and wife in a Star Cinema romantic drama.

In The Love Affair, Richard plays Vince, a loving husband who is trying to come to terms with the realization that his wife Patricia (Dawn) cheated on him. (WATCH: First ‘The Love Affair’ trailer)

At a press conference for the movie, Richard and Dawn revealed that they relied on past experiences to help them find the right emotions for the film. Being both married, they shared they were able to relate to Vince and Patricia’s story about going through challenges together in a marriage.

Karamihan doon nangyayari sa buhay mo so ‘di masyadong malayo ‘yung hugot. Like in some sequences, may mga confrontations kami so talagang naghahanap ka ng tool from your past experiences,” Richard said.

(A lot of the experiences in your life actually help you bring up the emotions. Unless you have scenes where you really need to cry. Like in some sequences, we have confrontations, so you look for tools from your past experiences.)

I don’t understand completely, but I understand a lot. So I was able to use it in the portrayal of my character,” Dawn added.

Dawn and Richard’s love team is one of the most celebrated among Pinoy fans, especially via the hit 1991 movie Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit

The two even had a cameo in the 2014 box office hit She’s Dating the Gangster as the older version of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.

“Talagang ‘di rin ako makapaniwala. Masuwerte kami kasi ilan lang ba ang mga kagaya namin na may asawa na, dati ngang loveteam, pero hanggang ngayon tinatangkilik pa rin ng kanilang audience? We consider ourselves very very fortunate,” Dawn said.

(Up to now I cannot believe it. We’re very lucky because just a few, like us, have spouses, were part of a love team in the past, and are still being supported by the audience.)

While Dawn credited their pagsasamahan (experiences together) as the reason for the love team’s longevity, Richard added that it was mostly because of their chemistry. He said that they looked good together onscreen. The actor further enumerated Dawn’s many qualities that set her apart from his previous girlfriends. Richard and Dawn dated back in the ’90s.

Maganda siya, maganda siyang tingnan. Sexy siya. Maganda siyang mag-isip, very intelligent. Censored na yung iba,” he said followed by a laugh.

(She’s beautiful, she nice to look at. She’s sexy. She thinks well, very intelligent. the others – censored!)

“What else can I say? Hindi, totoo. I’m serious. Masaya lang talaga akong tao pero totoo ‘yun. She’s beautiful, she’s very sexy, very intelligent. As an actress, magaling talaga.”

(Seriously, it’s true. I’m a happy person, but that’s true. She’s beautiful, she’s very sexy, very intelligent. As an actress, she is really good.)

Despite the on-screen chemistry, both admitted that not ending up together in real life was for the best.

(If we were together in real life, we might not have a love team now. I feel it would not work There would be no excitement. because people have gotten used to the fact we are together, there might be no more spark.)

“Its better off this way. ‘Yung fantasy ng tao nandun lang. Kung kami ang nagkatuluyan, mawawala.  (The fantasy of the audience is just there. If we did become a real couple, it would disappear.)

Richard and Dawn also gave credit to their real life partners for being very understanding and supportive of their team-up. On his part, Richard said that his wife Lucy did not have any problems when she found out about the project, as she is a big CharDawn fan.

Mahirap ipaliwanag ‘yun. Sa part naman namin ni Lucy, kasi ako yung lalaki naiintindihan talaga ng asawa ko yung ginagawa ko and she loves watching my movies,” Richard said.

(If your spouse is not from showbiz, it would be difficult for your partner to understand the kissing scenes with other actors. It would be hard to explain. But in mine and Lucy’s part, since I’m the guy, she understands what I’m doing and she loves watching my movies.)

After The Love Affair, Richard and Dawn will start working on a new teleserye under ABS-CBN, called You’re My Home. – Rappler.com
