How Dennis Trillo got the role of Felix Manalo in Iglesia ni Cristo movie
Dennis says it was hard to play a role with minimal reference material, but INC members and ministers helped him on the set

MANILA, Philippines – Dennis Trillo said that he is grateful for being given the opportunity to play the role of Felix Manalo in the movie based on the life of Iglesia ni Cristo founder.

(I am very lucky to be part of the film. It was a good experience, working with the   best in the industry – from the actors, director, the people behind the the camera. And it’s my first time to work with Viva Films.)

Dennis said he was initially suprised why he was chosen as he was not an INC member. (WATCH: Dennis Trillo as INC founder in ‘Felix Manalo’ movie trailer)

“‘Yung unang pagtataka is bakit ako yung pinili nila?

(At first I asked, why was I chosen? I guess it should be a brother also, but later on, during the meeting, that’s when I realize how big this movie was.)

(I am very thankful that the role was given to me. It was originally not really for me but I guess I was destined to play this role despite the difficulty because it’s very hard to play a role of an icon. And many really love him and know him but by God’s grace, I was able to portray it well.)

When asked how he was able to effectively portray the INC founder in the movie, Dennis said he had a hard time since he had minimal reference material.

(The potrayal of Felix Manalo itself, the transfromation I had to undergo to be him, and the minimal references. During his time, there was no video recording. It was just all audio that was available on the Internet and pictures.)

(That’s why if you are basing it on a person and you do not have any reference [material] on how he lived his life, that’s very difficult.)

Dennis said that in order portray the role well, members of the INC were on set to help them.

(You cannot really improvise, that’s why we have the guidance of our brothers and sisters, the ministers and we had an immersion before we did the movie, so it helped me in playing the role of Ka Felix.)

Felix Manalo tells the story of the founder of the Iglesia ni Cristo. The trailer, which was shown on Sunday, August 16, shows Manalo’s life from his days as a young boy to the establishment of the INC, which numbers more than a million followers.

The movie also stars Bela Padilla, Gabby Concepcion, Lorna Tolentino, EJ Falcon, Joel Torre, Heart Evangelista and Richard Yap.

Directed by Joel Lamangan, Felix Manalo opens on October 7. – Rappler.com
