‘The Voice Kids PH 2’ final 4: Who will win it all at the grand finals?
Let's take a look at each finalist's major strengths and what they'll need to bring to the table for the grand finale

MANILA, Philippines – It’s a close race to the finish line of The Voice Kids Philippines as the final 4, through the course of the show’s second season, have finally been revealed.

The 4 who will compete in the finals are:

  • Reynan Dal-Anay
  • Esang de Torres
  • Sassa Dagdag
  • Elha Nympha

This is a very interesting lineup: for one thing, the top 4 includes two kids each from Team Lea and Team Bamboo – and no kid from Team Sarah. By contrast, in the previous season, Sarah Geronimo had two kids in the finals – winner Lyca Gairanod and runner-up Darren Espanto, with one kid each from Lea and Bamboo’s teams (JK Labajo and Darlene Vibares) rounding out the top 4.

The unofficial Rappler poll had Esang, Reynan, and Sassa in the top 3, with Zephanie Dimaranan in the 4th spot over Elha.

In the grand finale, the existing scoreboard will be wiped clean and the top 4 will once again court viewers for votes with a new set of performances.

Let’s take a look at each kid’s unique set of strengths as well as the challenges the final 4 might face moving forward. Now closing in one the finale, it’s still anyone’s game – the victory perhaps just a show-stopping performance away.

Esang de Torres

With all 3 coaches campaigning to get her on his or her team at the blind auditions, it seemed like Esang was poised for success from the beginning. And with her big voice and that pitch-perfect blind audition featuring classic showtune “Home” from The Wiz, she seemed a perfect match for her coach – Broadway star and Tony Award-winning actress Lea Salonga.

Why she might win: Consistency is key for Esang, and she’s been very solid in every performance, from the blinds, to the battles and sing-offs, to the semis. And though at 8, she’s a little younger than some of the other contestants, she’s proven that she’s got great control over her vocal abilities, attacking each song with precision and a precocious level of focus.

Going into the finals, we’ll look for another show-stopping moment from Esang, surpassing all of her excellent performances in the past.

Reynan Dal-Anay

Why he might win: Blasting past the rounds on The Voice Kids, Reynan has demonstrated very clear strengths throughout the course of the season – like another contestant, Elha, he’s shown a strong emotional connection to the music; a rich voice that allows a song’s message to slowly and subtly unfold before building to the big notes; natural moves onstage.

Reynan is also unique, proudly representing the Manobo tribe on the national stage. But he’s not at all coasting on that powerful message and his distinct platform – he’s earned his moment in the spotlight with performances that keep getting better. And when singing with peers, he’s proven that he can stand out, just as he did in the Battles and in the semifinals.

Going into the finals, audiences will be looking for those same goosebumps-inducing moments that he’s already delivered. The caliber of talent this season is very high, so expectations will be even higher.

Elha Nympha

Why she might win: At the end of her semifinal solo performance, a moving cover of “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” Bamboo told Elha that she would look back on her experiences later and see that one as a turning point in her musical life.

And it was true – Elha demonstrated emotional maturity and control over her own abilities. She has always done well, but the semifinal put her on the map and shone the spotlight firmly on her.

It’s not only about her back story, which is very compelling – so are those of the other contestants. Elha earned her spot with solid singing, putting on a great show for viewers.

During her rehearsals, coach Bamboo has often asked Elha to loosen up and let her voice naturally carry the song. Going into the finals, audiences will be looking for even more personality and energy from Elha to accompany her soulful vocal performances.

Sassa Dagdag

Why she might win: Sassa’s voice is full and textured, and Sassa is able to belt out big notes (she took on Sia’s “Chandelier” in the Blinds) and cover songs by powerhouse singers. But under the tutelage of coach Bamboo, Sassa is also developing her ability to tell a full story with just a whisper of a note.

It’s a beautiful thing to see, notably in her Sing-Off round, a cheery cover of “The Show.” And it was front and center during the semifinal group performance of “Saranggola ni Pepe/Ang Pipit” where she performed alongside adorable charmer Kyle Echarri and formidable Reynan Dal-Anay. She more than held her own.

In the coaching sessions shown on TV, Sassa is sometimes told to work on the clarity of her words when she’s singing. Going into the finals, audiences will look for the perfect song choice for Sassa and finale numbers that combine her vocal power with her equally affecting softer side.

Aside from all the visible factors – singing skills, stage presence, song choice, and the like – there’s still the X-factor that viewers will be looking for, an undeniable connection to the crowd that will have fans raring to vote.
