Marjorie Barretto on ex-husband Dennis Padilla, Julia Barretto
'I would wish na lang sana he would support our daughter, he would give words of encouragement,' says Marjorie

MANILA, Philippines – In a new interview, Marjorie Barretto spoke up about ex-husband Dennis Padilla’s interviews regarding their children.

Talking to reporters during the press conference of My Fair Lady, Thursday, September 3, Marjorie said she is very disappointed at what Dennis is telling the press about their children, including actress Julia Barretto.

“He says something else in public… Iba yung sinasabi niya sa inyong lahat. So ako nasasaktan ako para sa mga anak ko. Sana makita niya iyon, yung mga ginagawa niya sa bata…,” Marjorie said. (What he tells all of you is different. So for me, I feel hurt for my children. I hope he would see what he’s doing to the children…)

Marjorie said she wished that Dennis would not give any more interviews about their family problems and that he would settle the issues within themselves.

Kung ano man yung personal, let’s leave it within the family na lang. Huwag na niya ipa-cover or sana maalala niya na may gag order na hindi dapat mini-mention yung dates ng hearing. Sana maayos yung relasyon nilang mag-aama,” she said.

(Whatever’s personal, let’s leave it within the family. He should not have it covered by the press or just remember the gag order, that he’s not allowed to mention dates of the hearing. Also, I hope he can fix the relationship with the children.)

Marjorie also said that she knows the whole truth about the problems within their family, but would rather not say anything for the sake of their children.

” [It’s] very painful because as much as I know the truth, the whole truth ,there is a different side. The whole truth is very different from what he tells everybody. Hindi ko mapatulan kasi naawa ako sa mga bata,” Marjorie said. (I cannot talk about it because I feel sorry for the children)

Marjorie clarified that she is airing her feelings not because of their separation, but because of their kids. She also said that Dennis should just give support to Julia.

Ang sama ng loob ko hindi na dahil sa akin… we’ve been separated for 9 years. Lahat ng hinanakit ko ngayon dahil sa mga bata kasi pinoportray niya my children in a position na hindi naman sila puwede lumaban, they cannot fight back. So napapasama sila and they cannot air their side. Why put our children in that position?

“I would wish na lang sana he would support our daughter (Julia), he would give words of encouragement na ‘anak I’m so proud of you’ or isipin niya na yung anak ko hindi natutulog dahil sa trabaho (think that she doesn’t get much sleep because of work) trying to build a name and a future for herself. So any words of destruction from him di ba are very painful for her…”

In a July ABS-CBN report, Julia said she got hurt by her father’s statement on television, after she reportedly did not withdraw the petition to change her family name to Barretto from Baldivia, Dennis’ real surname. In the same article, Julia said that she has done something about the petition but would rather not discuss it.

On sister Claudine

Meanwhile, Marjorie said that everything is now okay with her and younger sister Claudine. The two met face to face during Julia’s 18th birthday party last March and were spotted together during Claudine’s birthday celebration last July. “Everything is okay with me and Claudine,” Marjorie said, adding her children are now okay with her as well.

She is also very happy that Claudine is making a comeback in showbiz just like her.

“I’m genuinely happy for her and see that her spirits are very high, and what a waste kung hindi siya babalik sa industriya.” (It would be a waste if she did not return to the industry.)

Marjorie also shared that she and Claudine are so supportive of each other that Claudine texts her during tapings and even gave a taping chair that can fold into a bed.

When asked about the possibility of reconciling with older sister Gretchen, Marjorie said: “You know…everything has timing. There’s a time for everything. Sometimes you don’t force it. Kailangan nasa sa loob mo na or na fi-feel whatever…hindi na siya winiwish because it will fall into place …”

Marjorie and Claudine were estranged from each other, after Claudine’s separation from Raymart. Marjorie, Gretchen and older brother Jayjay sided with Raymart on his case against Claudine. (READ: Gretchen on the ‘pain and shame’ of being a Barretto– Rappler.com
