#Aldub: Yaya Dub and Alden finally go on their first date

MANILA, Philippines – After two months of split-screen moments and two face-to-face encounters, the much awaited date between Yaya Dub (Maine Mendoza) and Alden Richards finally happened.

The AlDub tandem was born out of Eat Bulaga’s “Juan For All, All For Juan” segment, where the characters Alden and Yaya Dub are in love, but kept apart by Yaya’s boss, Lola Nidora. Lola granted them their first date on the September 19 episode, though. The characters have only ever seen each other in person twice before. 

There were many obstacles that came along the way to their first date, and many more to come. In the meantime, here’s what happened during AlDub’s first date:

Yaya Dub and Alden are now doing well after being rescued from Lola Nidora’s granddaughter Duhrizz, who kidnapped them last week. Lola Nidora apologized to the two for what Duhrizz did to them.

On September 16, Lola Nidora gave Alden and Yaya Dub a surprise. She handed Yaya 4 cupcakes with the letters T, D, A and E. After a lot of teasing and jumbling up the letters, Nidora and her sisters, Tinidora and Tidora, spelled out the word, “DATE.” Lola Nidora officially allowed the two to go on their first date, much to the tandem’s fans’ happiness.

But there was a catch. Nidora said they weren’t allowed to touch each other, not allowed to rush the moment, and that Yaya Dub must be back in Nidora’s care after Eat Bulaga. 

On Thursday, September 17, Yaya Dub and Alden also celebrated their 9th weeksary. To prepare the two, Nidora, Tidora and Tinidora played a matching game to determine if the two were compatible. The two  got 5 out of 7 answers correct.

On Friday, September 18, Lola Nidora and her sisters prepared Yaya Dub for her date by giving her tips on table manners and dating. Nidora, Tidora and Tinidora also helped Yaya with her outfit and makeup.

 

 

Finally, the day of AlDub’s big date arrived on Saturday, September 19. As both Alden and Yaya prepared, fans of the duo also started tweeting the hashtag #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate, which reached more than 10 million tweets. Within 3 hours after the show, it reached 11 million tweets and still counting as of 6pm.

Before the actual date, Alden went up to Maine’s parents, who were present at the studio. He sought their blessing, which both readily gave. Alden was helped by Eat Bulaga co-hosts Allan K and Ruby Rodriguez in preparing for the moment.

Yaya was seen getting her hair and makeup done, while Alden was getting dressed in his best.

Finally, the two arrived at their date location, where they lunched on pugo, isaw, and wine under the watchful eye of a cardboard cutout Lola Nidora. 

 

The date was cut short though, after an alarm rang, reminding Yaya that she had to go and give Lola her medicine. Yaya Dub rushed out, but the screech of tires was heard soon after, leading the audience to believe that Yaya was hurt in a car crash at the end of the episode.
