Selena Gomez reveals battle with lupus, says she went through chemotherapy
Selena talks about undergoing chemotherapy and her new album 'Revival'

MANILA, Philippines – Singer Selena Gomez confirmed that she battled lupus, an autoimmune disease, during the time she canceled her Star Dance tour in 2013 and 2014.

In an interview with Billboard, Selena finally spoke about the condition after rumors circulated that she was suffering from an illness. There were vicious rumors that she had an addiction problem.

“I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke,” Selena shared. “I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a**holes.’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”

Selena also shared she is now focusing on her music through her album Revival set for release on Friday, October 9. She said the hate she’s been receiving actually did its part to motivate her and push her harder.

In the interview, she also spoke about taking control of her own body image, and former boyfriend Justin Bieber.

She also said that good friend Taylor Swift has really helped her out when it comes to opening her heart to others.

“Taylor makes me feel empowered, like I can trust new people,” she said. “All of those girls are so dope. We ran around taking pictures, changing dresses, dancing – super-cliche girly stuff, but it rocked. The way she cares about women is so adamant. It’s pulling me out of my shell.” – Rappler.com
