KC Concepcion speaks up on Paulo Avelino, Piolo Pascual, Sharon Cuneta
KC looks back at 2015 and calls it a year of healing

MANILA, Philippines – KC Concepcion considers 2015 as the year of healing. After her break-up with Piolo Pascual and Paulo Avelino, and her rift with mom Sharon Cuneta, the actress revealed she is excited about what 2016 has to offer.

In an interview with reporters at the launch of Natural Looks, Monday, December 21, KC admitted that her relationship with Paulo had to take a backseat, as the latter needed to concentrate on his career.

“Paulo’s somebody that I have a very strong connection with, siya na rin ‘yung nagsabi. (It was him who said so too). It’s just very hard to say kung ano kami, kung ano ‘yung nangyayari (what are status is, what happened) because, I think, at this point, he needs to focus on his career,” KC said.

“He needs to do everything to make it work because nandiyan na s’ya eh (he’s there already). I mean it’s not every day that this opportunity comes to somebody, so if anything, I’ll support him sa career n’ya,” she added.

In March, Paulo confirmed that he and KC broke up.

When asked about her reconciliation with Piolo, KC shared that working outside of showbiz helped her move on. As the United Nations World Food Programme (UN WFP) Ambassador Against Hunger, KC spent most of 2015 travelling in and out of the country reaching out to the underprivileged. “I prayed a lot about it. It’s been how many years na rin between me and Piolo. I think the lessons have been learned. There’s really nothing, no reason right now kung bakit hindi dapat mag-usap (why we should not talk),” she said.

KC and Piolo ended their relationship in 2011.

Hindi ‘yun mangyayari kung nasa trabaho lagi yung isip ko. (That would have not happened if work was always on my mind.) I was working outside of the country. I’m just really blessed na meron akong (that I had) United Nations na pinagkakaabalahan (to be busy with), it was really healthy for me. My fans, they are excited to see what’s next, to see that I have a life outside of showbiz. They see that I’m happy.”

KC also admitted that she has been dating but wanted to keep the details private for now.

Siguro (I guess) I’ll keep that private first, but hindi naman nawawala ‘yun (it won’t go away).”

On family

KC shared that her only Christmas wish this year is for her family to get even closer. In June, Sharon and KC had a misunderstanding over the sexy photos she posted on Instagram. The two, however, reconciled after KC visited her mom at the hospital where she was confined in August. (READ: KC Concepcion on relationship with Sharon Cuneta: We’re not perfect)

Ngayon na wala na yung lola ko (Now that my grandmother is no longer here), I really wish that my mom and I would get closer. I really just want the best for her. Malaki na rin si Frankie, she’s a teenager so I just want our family to be closer than ever and I can’t do it alone,” she said.

Frankie Pangilinan is KC’s half-sister. She is the daughter of Sharon with politician Francis Pangilinan.

“It takes teamwork,” added KC. “I want all of us to be happy and all of us to keep trying to keep each other happy.”

On future projects

Although she has been receiving several movie offers, KC said she is still waiting for the right role to come her way. She added that it was her decision to take a step back this 2015 and go back to her roots.

“I think this year has been important for me na isipin ko muna kung sino ako (to think about who I am first). I want to go back to what people loved about me from when I came home from Paris,” KC said.

KC’s career took off after she graduated from the American University of Paris in 2007.

Parang sino ba si KC that time? Feeling ko kasi in the 7 years that passed, na super lagari, wala na akong ginawa kundi magtrabaho, parang naramdaman ko na nawala yung KC na nakilala nila when I first got back.”

(It’s like, who was KC that time? I feel that in the 7 years that passed, wherein I was doing so many things, I didn’t do anything except work, so I feel like the KC everyone knew when I first got back is gone.)

“This year, sabi ko,Wait, sino ba ako? (I said, ‘Wait, who am I?’) Sino ba ‘yung minahal nilang KC?’ Gusto kong maramdaman ng tao na (Who is the KC everyone loved? I want people to feel that) I’m still her and that I have a lot to offer outside sa work ko sa (of my work in) showbiz, which I have been thankful to have both worlds.

Hindi ko na-imagine na I’ll be doing work outside Philippine showbiz kasi dun na ko pinanganak, ‘yun na ‘yung nagpakain sa ’kin growing up and ‘yun na rin ang naging hilig ko, but I went back to my roots. I started United Nations 2007 or 2008 kasabay ng documentary ko, KC from Paris to Pinas in ABS, and you know it’s going back to what was really important to me at that time,” she said.

(I didn’t imagine that I’ll be doing work outside Philippine showbiz, because that’s what I was born into, that’s what provided food for me growing up, and that’s what I grew to love but I went back to my roots. I started United Nations 2007 or 2008, along with my documentary KC from Paris to Pinas in ABS, and you know it’s going back to what was really important to me at that time.)

KC, however, said that she is not leaving showbiz for good. She shared she is just on the lookout for roles that will excite her.

“There are movie offers naman talaga, it’s just a matter of choosing something exciting. Something that connects with me first before [it] connects with other people. I don’t want to do something na (that is) for the sake lang na lumabas (of having something out), or for the sake lang na may (of having a) project.” – Rappler.com
