MANILA, Philippines – Vin Diesel became emotional when he accepted two awards for the movie Furious 7 at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards and paid tribute to the late Paul Walker.

Paul starred with Vin in most of the installments of The Fast and the Furious. Paul died in 2013.

“First of all, I wanna say that I’m up here accepting this on behalf of my producing partner Neil and myself. We have the best cast in the world. Everybody that comes to be a part of Fast and Furious…wow, there’s a lot of you here,he said to the audience.

Vin thanked Universal Pictures for being supportive of the movie and tried to control his emotions as he continued his speech.

“You know, as I was coming up here, I always do this. I say I’m not going to get emotional about winning these awards, and I was cool when I was sitting in my seat, and then they handed me two awards. One for Favorite Action Movie and one for Favorite Film. You all thought that this was your favorite film. I think of [the characters] Dom (played by Vin) and Brian (played by Paul) and I start to think of Paul,” he said.

“It was a labor of love. My only message to you is you’d be amazed what you can do with love,” Vin said. “You’d be amazed at how powerful a force that is. When we didn’t want to come back to filming when the tragedy was too heavy, it was the love of everyone combined that saw us through to the end.”

“I want to thank the People’s Choice Awards. It’s real people that are voting for these awards. It’s just pure fans saying how much they appreciate our work, and that means the world to me,” Vin added.

He ended his speech by singing “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa, featuring Charlie Puth, which was part of the Furious 7 soundtrack as a tribute to Paul.

Paul died on November 30, 2013, when the car he was riding slmmed into a tree in Los Angeles. At the time of his death, he was finishing the 7th installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. His brothers Caleb and Cody stepped in to finish the movie, which became a box-office hit in 2015. – Rappler.com
