Claudine says that she and Raymart have yet to get an annulment, and are focused on raising their two kids. She also talks about former flame Rico Yan, who died in 2002

MANILA, Philippines – Actress Claudine Barretto said that her relationship with ex-husband Raymart Santiago is now better, after making amends with each other last year. She also spoke about former flame Rico Yan, who died in 2002.

In an interview with reporters during the press conference for her upcoming teleserye Bakit Manipis Ang Ulap Monday, January 18, Claudine shared that she and Raymart have decided to put their annulment proceedings aside, and focus on raising their two children, Sabina and Santino. “[I’m] happy. Very, very happy. Hindi pa single and hindi pa po kami nag-start sa annulment. (I’m not yet single, and we have not started with the annulment),Claudine said.

Kami ni Raymart, we’re really good friends now. We’re trying our best to be talaga good parents, kasi nga nag-fail po kami as husband and wife sa mga anak namin, so we don’t want to fail as parents naman. So ngayon, napag-usapan namin na i-stop na ang lahat-lahat ng mga kaso and mag co-parenting na lang sa pagpapalaki ng mga anak namin.”

(Raymart and I are really good friends now. We’re trying our best to be good parents to our kids. Though we’ve failed as husband and wife, we don’t want to fail as parents. So now, we’ve agreed to postpone the case for now, and co-parent, share responsibilities in raising our children.)

Claudine said that the only time they’ve agreed to proceed with the annulment is when one of them enters a new relationship, or if their kids are finally ready.

In a separate interview, Claudine reiterated that her relationship with Raymart is much better, and that had they stayed together, their children probably would not do so well.

Happy ako ngayon sa relationship namin. You know nag-usap kami ni Raymart, sabi ko,’Alam mo, sobrang nakaka-proud yung mga anak namin, sobra talaga. They’re achievers. They’re very respectful – marunong mag-po and opo, matatalino, sobra.’ Ang swerte-swerte namin sobra… We’re so blessed,” Claudine said.

(I’m happy with our relationship now. You know, Raymart and I talked, and I told him, ‘You know I’m very proud of our kids. They’re achievers. They’re very respectful – they know how to say po and opo, they’re very smart.’ We’re very lucky… We’re so blessed.)

Claudine also shared that she and her sister Marjorie Barretto are slowly getting over their awkwardness with each other, after reconciling last year during the 18th birthday of Marjorie’s daughter Julia. (IN PHOTOS: Claudine Barretto celebrates birthday with sister Marjorie and family)

Mas slowly nagiging comfortable na kami sa isa’t isa, and yung mga bata nakakasama ko na (We’re slowly becoming comfortable with each other, and I do get to spend some time with the kids),” Claudine said, referring to Marjorie’s kids Julia, Leon, Claudia, and Danni.

Rico Yan’s letters

Claudine also explained why she decided to share some of the love letters her late ex-boyfriend Rico Yan gave to her on Instagram. According to Claudine, she and Rico’s sister Tina were going through some rough times and decided to share it.

Meron kaming pinagdadaaan noon, and parang may sign na may nahanap si Tina na ganito, may nahanap ako sa wallet na picture at yung letter,” she said.

(We were going through something at that time, and there were signs, like, Tina found this and I found a picture and letter in my wallet.)

Siguro, sana ayoko lang makalimutan si Rico, ‘yun lang naman talaga iyon. And of course, when you’re in a relationship, you cannot say that to your husband na gusto kong buhayin yung legacy na iniwan nung ex ko. Di pwede naman iyon.

(I guess I did not want to forget Rico, that’s just it. And of course, when you’re in a relationship, you cannot say to your husband that you want to keep the legacy of your ex alive.)

“So as of now I’m more open and may freedom ako to do whatever is what I want to do with whatever it is with Rico na hindi ko nagawa dati (that I was not able to do before),” Claudine added.

Claudine and Rico were one of the hottest love teams in the ’90s, appearing together in the drama Mula Sa Puso (1997) and its spin-off film (1999), as well as movies such as Got 2 Believe (2002). Rico died in 2002.

On December 27, Claudine posted a letter and a picture of her and Rico, saying that that she and Tina missed him dearly. It was followed by two more posts dated January 3 and 4. (READ: Claudine Barretto posts 2 new notes from ex-boyfriend Rico Yan)

Claudine said that she was happy to be working again with Direk Joel, and that she merely had to adjust to the technical aspects of the production like new lights, and all. (READ: Diether Ocampo on TV reunion with Claudine Barretto)

Regarding issues about her alleged unprofessionalism years ago, Claudine said that it’s a non-issue to her now, after all she has been through.

Sa sobrang dami kong pinagdaanan sa 5 years na ito, I think yung pagiging unprofessional napaka-maliit na bagay na iyon.”

(With all that I’ve been through for the past 5 years, I think this issue of being unprofessional is insignificant…)

Hindi ko na iindahin iyon. As long as I see that the people around are happy working with me, and I’m happy working with them. At may respeto sa isa’t isa bilang mga professional na artista, okay na iyon, ” she said.

(I don’t mind that anymore. As long as I see the people around are happy working with me, and I’m happy working with them. And that we respect each other as professionals, I’m okay with that.) – Rappler.com
