How James Reid and Nadine Lustre became an official couple

James says he asked Nadine's father for his permission before courting her

MANILA, Philippines – “Officially JaDine.” These were the exact words James Reid told the press after the JaDine In Love concert about his relationship with Nadine Lustre, Saturday, February 20.

In an interview with ABS-CBN’s Bandila, Monday, February 22, James said he meant it when he said “I love you” to his On The Wings of Love co-star during the concert.

“It is what it is. That’s how I feel about her. I love her,” he said.

“She was my best friend before anything else. I can be my 100% silly, weird James when I’m with her. And no one understands me [more] than she does.”

Nadine, who was by James’ side during the interview also said “I love you” to him. She also said that she did not expect James to tell the world his feelings.

I didn’t expect him to tell everyone. I mean it’s Araneta and it’s in Pay-Per-View. So almost, halos buong mundo nakatutok (the whole world was watching), all the OTWOListas, all the JaDines…” Nadine said.

In a separate interview for one of his new endorsements, James said he sought the permission of Nadine’s father before he formally courted her.

“For me because I’m Australian, I guess because I grew up in Sydney, the way we court girls is different there. But of course, the first person to know was her father. I asked permission from him first a while back. So I try to keep some of that Filipino tradition,” he said.

James said that he asked Nadine out to dinner last February 11. According to him, Nadine did not expect what was going to happen next.

I thought you know what, now is the right time. She said ‘are you in love?’ I said yes of course. She knew what I was talking about,” he said.

Now that they are together in real life, James said he’s relieved everything’s out in the open.

It’s just so liberating to you know, just be able to hold her hand in public, say I love you out loud,” he said.

On Monday, February 22, Nadine’s mom Myraquel Lustre posted on Instagram a short message for James, thanking him for loving Nadine.

@jaye.wolf Thank you for loving Nadine, please take good care of her. Praying for both of you! #otwollastmemorabletrip,” she wrote.

James and Nadine rose to fame following the success of their movies Diary ng Panget and Talk Back and You’re Dead. They later signed up with ABS-CBN, where they were featured in the show My App Boyfie and On The Wings of Love, which ends on Friday, February 26. – Rappler.com
