Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz remember director Wenn Deramas
'He really was a mentor to many of us here in ABS-CBN,' Piolo says of the late director

MANILA, Philippines – Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz paid tribute to to the late director Wenn Deramas, remembering some of the moments that they shared with the comedy filmmaker.

In an interview with Star Cinema, Piolo, who did the show Buttercup (2003-2004) with Direk Wenn, expressed his sadness upon learning of his sudden death.

“I was devastated. My first taste of teatro (theater), I was with direk Wenn already in UST (University of Santo Tomas). We’re guild mates and we’ve known each other for more than 20 years so masakit kasi hindi lang sa ABS-CBN ko siya kapamilya kundi sa teatro (We’re guild mates and we’ve known each other for more than 20 years. So it hurts because it was not only in ABS-CBN that we were family, but also in theater.)”

Piolo also said he is honored to have worked with Wenn. Aside from Buttercup, Wenn also directed Piolo and Claudine Barretto in the show Walang Kapalit (2007).

He’s taught me a lot. He really was a mentor to many of us here in ABS-CBN,” Piolo said.

Meanwhile, John Lloyd said that Direk Wenn was a big loss to the entertainment industry.

Malaki ‘yung nawala sa industriya. Malaki ‘yung nawala sa amin. Malaki ‘yung nawala sa tao. Kasi napakalaki ng papel ni Direk Wenn sa pagbibigay ng ligaya sa napakaraming tao,” he said.

(The industry lost a big figure. We and the people truly lost someone important because Direk Wenn played a huge part in bringing happiness to people.)

He also added, We need more people like him. Hindi sila dapat nawawala (We shouldn’t be losing them.)”

Celebrities such as Vice Ganda, Kris Aquino, Coco Martin, and more paid tribute to Wenn, who died due to cardiac arrest on Monday.

His remains are at Arlington Memorial Chapels in Araneta Avenue, Quezon City. There will be a necrological service at the Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN, Saturday, March 5. – Rappler.com
