Roberts died of natural causes on Sunday in her hometown of Los Angeles.

Roberts picked up best supporting actress 4 times in the early 2000s for her portrayal of Marie Barone, the mother of Ray Romano’s sportswriter character in the show Everybody Loves Raymond (ELR), which ran for 9 seasons.

Many of her co-stars and members of the industry remembered her on social media, following her death.

Actress Patricia Heaton remembered her late ELR co-star, saying, “Truly the end of an era. My wonderful TV mother-in-law and ELR nemesis Doris Roberts was a consummate professional from whom I learned so much. She was funny and tough and loved life, living it to the fullest. Nothing gave her greater joy than her 3 wonderful grandshildren, of whom she was so proud. It was truly a privilege, Doris. I love you and miss you.”



Ray Romano, who played Ray Barone on the show, told The Wrap: “Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me. She never stopped.”

He continued, “Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly.”

Brad Garrett, who played Ray’s brother on the show, also said in a statement quoted by The Wrap, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Doris Roberts, an amazing lady and brilliant actor. Doris was vibrant and full of life both on and off the stage, and I am so grateful we shared so many wonderful memories. I will miss her greatly and will always remember her incredible kindness, humor, talent and heart.”
