LOOK: Kate Middleton’s first ever magazine cover
The Duchess of Cambridge is the cover star for the centenary issue of British 'Vogue' – her first magazine shoot

MANILA, Philippines – Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, figures as the cover star for the June 2016 issue of Vogue magazine’s British edition. According to Vogue, this is the first magazine feature that she has given her consent to, which also happens to be for the fashion magazine’s centenary issue.

Editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman said in a Vogue news release, “It’s a huge honor and incredibly exciting for us to have [Her Royal Highness] The Duchess of Cambridge featuring on the cover of British Vogue and as part of our centenary issue.”

“For me personally it has been a wonderful experience to have had the opportunity to work with her on this, and I am immensely proud of what we have produced,” she continued. “This special issue of the magazine is very close to my heart as it had to reflect on 100 years of British Vogue, and so I am hugely grateful that we have been able to continue with our tradition of outstanding royal portraiture with these pictures.”

Appearing in a 10-page magazine spread, the Duchess of Cambridge was photographed by Josh Olins in the countryside of Norfolk, where she spends a lot of time with her family.

Josh Olins told Vogue, “This was the Duchess’s first sitting for a magazine and she was a joy to work with, a natural. I am extremely grateful to Alexandra Shulman for placing her faith in me for such an important and historic assignment.”

The Duchess was involved in selecting the clothes – which include Burberry and Petit Bateau pieces – and worked with British Vogue‘s fashion director Lucinda Chambers and editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman.

“The resulting images – captured outdoors in January this year – are the most personal and natural royal portraits ever undertaken by Vogue,” wrote Lauren Milligan for Vogue.

Kate Middleton has also agreed for two portraits from the shoot to be featured in Vogue 100, an exhibition at London’s National Portrait Gallery (NPG), which runs until May 22 before relocating to Manchester. Her portraits hang alongside those of Prince Charles, Kate Moss, Cate Blanchett, Sofia Coppola, and more.

The Duchess, a photography enthusiast herself, is a patron of the gallery. (LOOK: Adorable new photos of Princess Charlotte, taken by Kate Middleton)
