Sharon says she will be more careful and stricter as a coach in the show

MANILA, Philippines – After announcing that she is going to be part of The Voice KidsMegastar Sharon Cuneta has been officially welcomed to the show during the press conference for her Thursday, May 5.

According to Sharon, The Voice was originally offered to her before she transfered to another TV network. (READ: Confirmed: Sharon Cuneta returns to ABS-CBN)

I’m now more honored because I’m going to be with Ms. Lea Salonga and of course, Bamboo. So I really feel blessed to be part of the show, to be one of […] the coaches, and I’m very excited to see all the talents that are going to come out,” she said.

According to Sharon, she did not hesitate in accepting her role as the new coach after Sarah Geronimo decided not to return to the show’s third season.

Wala po akong hindi pwede hindian dito sa The Voice Kids kasi kasama ko si Lea, si Bamboo and siguro the most talented children sa bansang ito. So wala pong dahilan na para tumanggi ako,” she said.

(I can’t refuse The Voice Kids because I’m with Lea, Bamboo, and I guess, some of the most talented children in this country. So there’s no reason for me to refuse.)

When asked how she will be as a coach, Sharon said that she will be stricter, saying, “I have the tendency to be nurturing, adopt everybody – treat everyone like they were kids.  And it’s not reciprocated, minsan naabuso. So natuto na ako. (My kindness has been abused so many times. So I’ve learned my lesson.)

Replacing Sarah Geronimo

Sharon also took issue about being referred to as Sarah’s mere replacement: Kapalit na lang ni Sarah? (Just Sarah’s replacement?) I don’t think that’s a fair statement.”

“First of all, it happens in the business every once in a while that a good artist decides to do other projects, and then naturally, somebody has to take her place,” she added. “Sarah knows exactly what she’s doing. She’s a great singer and a performer and I admire her.

“The mere fact na umalis ‘yung bata, hindi ibig sabihin na parang, ‘O sige, ikaw na lang,’ parang panakip-butas. Kasi hindi din kukuha ang staff at ang bosses ng The Voice Kids at ng The Voice, ng kung sino lang.”

(The mere fact the girl left, it doesn’t necessarily mean that ‘Okay, you just replace her,’ like some spare tire. Because I don’t think the staff and bosses of The Voice Kids and The Voice will just get anyone)

She added, “Since marami na din akong na-coach sa Star Power, marami na akong na-coach hanggang sa pagpapayat – lahat ng mga ganyan at matagal na ako sa showbiz – I consider it an honor to be part of the show.”

(Since I’ve coached so many talents in Star Power, I’ve also coached in [The Biggest Loser] – all of these and I’ve been in showbiz for a long time – I consider it as an honor to be part of the show.)

“And I love Sarah. There should not be a problem. The girl should be allowed to […] pursue the interests that are really in her heart right now because she has worked so hard for it.”

Last April, Sarah announced that she was not returning for the third season of The Voice Kids to concentrate on other projects. However, Sarah said she’s open to returning in the future seasons of the show. – Rappler.com
