WATCH: Ryan Gosling remembers finding out about ‘Hey Girl’ meme

MANILA, Philippines – Ryan Gosling is well aware of the “Hey Girl” memes that have been making the rounds on the Internet for years, but said that he was certainly confused when he first heard about them.

In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres on her show, Ryan recalled the first time he found out about the memes that feature himself saying “Hey Girl.”

“I found out about it I think in an odd way because I didn’t know what it was and people would say, you know, ‘Hey girl,'” Ryan said.

“And then I started looking deeply [into] myself as to why people were just saying ‘Hey girl.’ They were just screaming across the street, ‘Hey girl!’ It took me a while to figure it out,” Ryan admitted.

Ryan starred in the popular romantic drama, The Notebook, opposite Rachel McAdams and more recently, he was in The Big Short and The Nice Guys.

In The Nice Guys, a comedy about a detective and a cop, a reference was made to the “Hey Girl” memes too.

He addressed the scene in an interview with Good Morning America, a day before his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, claiming, “I never said it.”
