WATCH: ‘Chewbacca Mom’ drives James Corden to work, gets surprise from real Chewbacca
Candace Payne, aka 'Chewbacca Mom,' appears in a 'Late Late Show' sketch with James Corden and 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' director JJ Abrams. She also gets a surprise from Peter Mayhew, the actor inside the Chewbacca suit

MANILA, Philippines – In just a matter of days, so many things have changed for Candace Payne, who has gained the playful moniker “Chewbacca Mom.” As a birthday treat for herself, she bought a Chewbacca mask, and filmed herself with it on Facebook live. The video went viral, garnering around 139 million views so far. (WATCH: ‘Chewbacca mom’ conquers cyberspace with laughing jag)

In the viral video, she laughed uncontrollably as she put on the Wookie mask, which emits the Star Wars character’s trademark groaning sound.

Now, she made it on late night television, getting to drive The Late Late Show host James Corden to work.

James was a little bit uneasy as he was running a bit late. Meanwhile, Candace was still having a good, hearty laugh with the mask.

“You know that doesn’t sound anything like Chewbacca, right?” James tells the cheerful mother.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams suddenly appears in the backseat, expressing his disagreement. JJ, being gracious, even gives Candace some tips to sound more convincing as the iconic Wookie.

At his Late Late Show set, James sat down with Candace to talk about her record-breaking video.

“You know, I’m quite an athletic, and so I feel like if I broke a record, I need a medal or something… or at least I need to sing ‘We Are the Champions’ everywhere,” Candace said.

She also told James why she shot the video: “I wanted to prove to my Facebook friends and family that [the] mask was mine.” In a way, she also said that it was her way of telling her kids that the mask was hers and not theirs.

James also shared that the JJ Abrams cameo in their sketch came as a surprise for Candace. However, he revealed that it wasn’t the last present she’d be getting.

He read a message from Peter Mayhew, the actual actor under the furry Wookie suit: “Candace, you are an inspiration. Your attitude and lovely message really resonates with spreading the good news of Star Wars with a heart. Well, it’s so much of why we do what we do.”

“I’d love to get to meet you and your family in person,” the message continued, saying that Peter had arranged to meet with Candace at the Dallas Fan Expo – along with VIP passes for her and her family. – Rappler.com
