After a private funeral, a public memorial is held for the late singer's fans as family and friends honor her memory

MANILA, Philippines –  A week after her shocking death, Christina Grimmie was laid to rest at a private service on Friday, June 17.

The ceremony was attended by her close family and friends, according to People. The funeral was reportedy paid for by her The Voice mentor, Adam Levine.

After her funeral, a public memorial service was held at Fellowship Alliance Chapel in Medford, New Jersey.

Christina’s parents and her brother Marcus Grimmie said a few words at her memorial and thanked those present and those who have supported them.

Marcus, who was with her when she was shot and tackled her attacker soon after, said, “All the rumors are true, that when the gunman came, he was very quick, it happened so fast, but her arms were open and… she saw Jesus next. Her arms were open for him, and that’s how she treated everyone she knew. Her arms were open to them at all times.”

Her mother, Tina, recounted the last time she saw Christina – at a family celebration for Tina’s birthday in May – and then added: “When Christina went home to be with the Lord Jesus, I’m not mad. But I wanna know why…. But I’m just taking one day at a time and your prayers, they hold me up.”

“There’s this gigantic hole in my heart that I know is never gonna go away. But God showed me that he’s way bigger than that hole,” said Christina’s father Bud.

On her official Facebook page, a compilation of her old videos and covers on YouTube was posted on June 18. The caption read, “Christina Grimmie was taken from all of us far too soon, but the impact she had on this world in the short 22 years of her life will carry on forever.”

Christina, 22, was shot on June 10 by one Kevin James Loibl while signing autographs after a concert at The Plaza Live in Orlando.

At a candelit vigil head in Christina’s honor on June 13, Marcus spoke about his younger sister and acknowledged those who died in the Orlando shooting as well. A day after her death, 50 people died at a mass shooting at a gay club in Orlando.

“Adam Levine paid for Christina’s funeral… Selena [Gomez] is singing a song and crying [during her concert]. These people [the families of the Orlando victims] didn’t have that and we are blessed to, so I’m at a great peace right now. She’s in a better place,” said Marcus.

Since her death, Brian started a GoFundMe page, to assist Christina’s family in their time of need. – Rappler.com
