WATCH: Gary Valenciano shares 3 most embarrassing concert moments
As Gary V celebrates 33 years in the industry, what were some of the not-so-glorious moments? Mr Pure Energy takes a look back at his most memorable onstage bloopers.

MANILA, Philippines – Not even the legendary Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano has been spared from onstage bloopers.

In an interview during his Rappler’s Live Jam last Monday, July 11, the singer shared 3 of his most memorable embarassing experiences in his 33 years in the music industry.

Fresh air

Gary said that the “worst” one was at an expo in New Jersey, USA – and he was “glad that it wasn’t shown on TV.”

“This was for an expo, ‘no? You know, it was a great, great, great event, because I was very close to the audience and they were all looking at me with parang, ‘Oh, Gary V,’ and I felt that, you know, so it was really nice, until the last part.

He said that it was his last song and he had a signature move where he would jump high. “I would try to go as high as I can and my legs were really open like this,” he explained.

“There’s no backstage, people are watching you even from behind, so when I jumped, I heard ‘Pop!’

“And then there was fresh air. Down there,” he said. “And I had popped my pants from the middle, all the way to the belt line.”

Gary added, “Thank God for a belt! Because if I didn’t have a belt – seriously – if I didn’t have a belt, it would have been a rated R concert – on the spot.”

Forgetting the words

Another memorable blooper, he said, was when he forgot lyrics to some songs.

“I had a song called ‘Di Na Natuto.’ Nakalimutan ko yung (I forgot the ) lyrics,” he shared.

As he forgot the lyrics, he said that he simply asked the audience: “Put your hands together!”

“It’s a ballad,” he said. “Forgetting lyrics is the worst thing especially when people know it’s a song of yours that you’re suppose to know. That for me is another one,”

He also recalled an incident when he also forgot the lyrics during a live performance on ASAP, when he was singing “Each Passing Night.”

He sang a part of the song: “Each passing night, I try to close my eyes, the thought of you they wake me up and tear me inside out.”

“And exit – I leave the studio, I go to my dressing room for the next song, and somebody runs to me: ‘What happened? You’re not supposed to exit yet! You still have two more verses to sing.’

“So the camera decied to go to other artists who weren’t doing anything. And I was gone from the set. In ASAP!”

Special effects

Gary also recalled when he appeared in the show of the late German “Kuya Germs” Moreno when he performed “Hataw Na” and disappeared from the camera’s view. He said that the show used an oil-based fog machine, which made the stage slippery.

“And another one was in Kuya Germs’ show. So the late Kuya Germs, and I’m doing ‘Hataw Na’ for the first time live – first time with the Maneuvers.

“And I’m coming down the steps like this and of course the effect, the impact… So imagine this okay? I’m dancing, I’m coming down.

“‘Ladies and gentlemen, my friend, Gary V!’ and that’s Kuya Germs, [so] I’m coming down the stairs, ‘Hataw na!’ and I’m gone from the screen, because what happened was they used an oil-based fog machine, the one that crawls on the floor. “

Despite these moments, Gary chalks it up to experience.

“Over 33 years, you’ll look back on all that, and you’ll go, ‘You win some, you lose some.”

Gary is currently promoting his latest concert called Gary V Presents at Kia Theater which will happen on July 15 and 16. – Rappler.com
