Jaya now a ‘Kapamilya,’ joins ‘It’s Showtime’ as ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ judge

MANILA, Philippines – Singer Jaya confirmed that she is now with ABS-CBN after she appeared on It’s Showtime’s “Tawag ng Tanghalan,” as a judge last week.

In an interview on Tonight with Abunda, Wednesday, July 20, Jaya explained why she decided to transfer to the Kapamilya network.

“May mga anak po ako. Hindi ko po ito ginagawa out of selfish reasons,” she said. “Tanggapin po natin na lahat tayo, kailangan din nating gawin ang desisyon na ang nakasalalay po ay iyong kabuhayan natin.” 

(I have children and I did not to this out of selfish reasons. We have to accept that we need to make decisions if it involves our livelihood.)

The singer, whose real name is María Luisa Ramsey and who is known as the Queen of Soul, compared her decision to that of a child growing up.

“Like any child, sometimes you have to grow up and you want to break free from something that you’re so used to doing and fly,” the soul singer said. “And for me, flying now and doing this with ABS-CBN is something I know God has planned for me.”

According to PEP, Jaya will appear only weekly on the show, just like the other judges. There has been no word on her being an exclusive ABS-CBN talent.

When asked about what other projects she may have with ABS-CBN, Jaya mentioned that she might also perform on ASAP.

Prior to her transfer to ABS-CBN, Jaya was last seen in GMA 7’s Poor Señorita with Regine Velasquez. – Rappler.com
