Vilma Santos speaks up about Luis Manzano, Jessy Mendiola

MANILA, Philippines – Batangas representative and Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos-Recto has expressed her support for son Luis Manzano, who has been receiving the subject of criticism after admitting he has been “going out” with actress Jessy Mendiola.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, the actress said that Luis and Jessy are “mature” enough to handle the situation.

“It is just napi-piyesta lang masyado. That’s why I was telling them, ‘Be calm, relax lang kayo, huwag nang patol ng patol. Ano lang, lalagpas din iyan,” she said.

(People just tend to feast on too much gossip. That’s why I was telling them to be calm, just relax, don’t mind the critics. This too shall pass.)

“But naniniwala ako sa anak ko, sa kakayahan niya na kaya niya dalhin ang sarili niya,” she added.

(I believe in my son’s ability to handle himself.)

With a chuckle, Vilma also said she does not see anything wrong if her son is linked to women who have been named as the “sexiest” women by FHM Philippines. Aside from Jessy, those who got the title were Jennylyn Mercado and Angel Locsin.

“Nagkataon siguro. Pero hindi kasalanan iyon ng anak ko iyon… Baka naman, hindi kaya, mabuting tao iyong anak ko kaya minamahal siya. Maybe kaya hindi siya makalimutan, baka siguro mabuting tao yung anak ko,” she said.

(I guess it was coincidental. But that’s not the fault of my son… Maybe because my son is a very nice person that’s why he’s well-loved. My son is unforgettable because he’s a very kind person.)

Vilma also said that in spite of the breakup of her son with Angel, she will always be friends with her. 

She also said that these issues are all part of showbiz: “Give it a week or two, ibang news na naman ‘yan ang magiging mainit… Showbiz lang talaga ‘yan (Other news items would become hot topics. That’s showbiz.)”

Recently, a photo of Jessy and Vilma made the rounds online. Luis confirmed in a PEP interview that he and Jessy were invited to a dinner by his mom, who wanted to “check up” on Jessy amid the vitriol they have been receiving.

In a previous interview, Jessy said that she has not met any of Luis’ family members. The two have only admitted to “going out.”

Jessy has been accused as the third party between Luis and Angel.

She explained that she was not the cause of the breakup, saying at one point: “It hurts ‘pag sinasabi nila na – for a lack of better term – ‘ahas’ ka. Wala lang, kasi labas ako sa kanila and what happened between the two of them.”

(It hurts when people say – for lack of a better term – ‘you’re a snake.’ Nothing, because I’m not involved in their problem and what happened between the two of them.)

Angel also spoke up about the matter, addressing Luis’ denial that Jessy was a third party. – Rappler.com
