Karen Bordador’s mother speaks out, defends daughter

MANILA, Philippines – The mother of radio DJ Karen Bordador defended her daughter, saying she is not involved with drugs.

In an interview on 24 Oras, Wednesday, August 17, an emotional Norie Bordador, who asked not to show her face on television, said that the accusations against her daughter are not true. (READ: Police eye charges against Karen Bordador, Emilio Lim)

“Hindi totoo iyon. Si Karen ay against drugs. We don’t deserve this. We don’t deserve this. Tigilan na nila yung pangcocondemn sa kanya,” she said. 

(That’s not true. Karen is against drugs. We don’t deserve this. We don’t deserve this. They should stop condeming her.)

According to Norie, her daughter is still in shock over the arrest. But the District Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group of the Southern Police District (SPD) said, it was Karen who even gave the bag containing drugs to her boyfriend Emilio Lim, when one of the police pretended to be a buyer.

“Inutusan ni Lim si Karen,” Chief Inspector Willy Sangel told 24 Oras. “[Si Karen] mismo ang kumuha sa bag para ibigay naman ito kay Lim bago binigay sa ahente natin.”

(It was Lim who instructed Karen. [She] was the one who got the bag to give it to Lim before giving it to the agent.)

The SPD also said that they have the list of people that Karen’s boyfriend allegedly gave drugs to, including showbiz personalities and models. 

Monster Radio 93.1, where Karen is a DJ, released a statement saying that they were surprised about Karen’s arrest and that there was no indication of drug use when she was at work.

“The station strongly condemns the use of illegal substances, and does not condone the use of drugs by any of our staff.

“Over several decades, RX 93.1 has built a reputation as a responsible, multi-awarded broadcast institution. We thank our listeners for their loyalty, and we assure the public that we will continue to be worthy of its trust and support,” the station said. 

Karen and her boyfriend were arrested on Saturday, August 13 by the Taguig City Police Station Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Group, together with the police operatives of Eastern Police District (EPD) and Philippines Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The groups conducted a buy-bust operation in a condominium in Pasig City, which resulted in the raid of various party drugs such as ecstasy powder, cracked ecstasy, marijuana, and various paraphernalia, amounting to P2.8 million. – Rappler.com
