Watch Pentatonix’s Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie try balut eggs in Manila!
In which Scott, Mitch, Kirstie and friends bury an unfortunate duck fetus in a potted plant, name it Philip (for the Philippines!), and perform a funeral dirge the way only Pentatonix can

MANILA, Philippines – Nobody eats balut eggs quite like the crew from Pentatonix! Superfruit duo and Pentatonix singers Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying posted a video of themselves trying the famous balut eggs with fellow PTX singer Kirstie Maldonado, and their friends Nicole, Esther, and Austin.

PTX is currently on tour – they recently stopped by in Manila for a September concert, following their first visit to the Philippines last year. This isn’t their first balut experience – at the press conference, Scott told reporters that he and Mitch had already tried it in their 2015 visit.

Balut, a fertilized duck egg, is a popular delicacy in the Philippines and in many parts of Southeast Asia. “Would you try / have you tried balut?” is also one of the most popular questions visiting artists are often asked.

The first bit of the video shows us reactions we’ve often seen in balut-reaction videos – horror, confusion, some disgust, fear, bewilderment (Kirstie found the taste of the broth to be not bad at all), among other emotions.

But near the end of the video, Kirstie drops her balut and the gang names the fetus Philip (for the Philippines). Everyone gives Philip a funeral; Philip gets buried in a nearby potted plant and even receives a eulogy from Mitch and a dirge from Mitch and Scott.

Though Philip’s end is quite sad, the same can’t be said for PTX’s Manila stop, which Scott brings up in the video’s “weekly obsessions” portion. “My weekly obsession is Manila, once again, the show was unbelievable, you guys are incredible!” said Scott.

PTX had earlier shown a lot of love for the Filipino fans, saying that the country was full of amazing singers and that their Manila show back in 2015 was one of their favorites on tour. – Rappler.com
