Angelica Panganiban on friendship with ex-boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz

Rob Reyes

'Siguro ang masasabi ko lang ay masaya ako ngayon and masaya siya,' Angelica says of her relationship status with John Lloyd

MANILA, Philippines – It has been months since Angelica Panganiban and John Lloyd Cruz broke up, but the actress said that she and John Lloyd have maintained their friendship.

In an interview with the press at the sidelines of a press conference for her upcoming movie The Unmarried Wife on Thursday, November 3, Angelica was asked if there’s a possibility that she and John Lloyd would get back together. The two were spotted last month at a restaurant.

(I guess what I can say is I’m happy, and he’s happy now. We’re friends and we all know how pretty much impossible it can be for two people in a previous relationship become friends in the end. But I guess this is one of the things we’re proud of, because even if it’s difficult, there are struggles of course in the beginning on how you’ll maintain the friendship.)

Pero gaya nga ng sabi natin, nagmahalan kayo dati, bakit naman kailangan mauwi sa away ‘di ba?” she said.

(But as we said before, you loved each other before, so why do you have to end up fighting, right?)

When it comes to love though, Angelica had this to say:

Basta pag nagmahal at nasaktan ka, magpaganda ka after, ” Angelica said.

(If you love and get hurt, go be fierce after.)

Lagi ko sinasabi pwede ka naman magmahal nang wagas di ba? Kahit pa one-way, two-way, may u-turn, love iyan e.

(I always said that you can love completely right? If if it’s one-way, two-way, u-turn, that’s love.)

Maganda kung ang buong mundo nagmamahalan lang – walang gender, walang religion involved. Dapat peace and love lang tayong lahat.

(It would be a wonderful thing if everyone loved each other – no gender, no religion involved. We should all be about peace and love.)

Kasi sa tingin ko, iikot lang ang mundo kapag meron kang pagmamahal at respeto sa sarili mo at sa ibang tao.

(Because I think the world will go on really, if you have love and respect for yourself and other people.)

As for settling down in the future, Angelica said she still doesn’t see herself getting married for now, as she wants to focus on herself first.

Hindi siguro in the near future pero alam ninyo ang isip naman ng tao nagbabago iyan.

(I guess not in the near future but you know, a person can change his/her mind.)

“And baka ma misquote lang ako pero nirerespeto ko lahat ng mga taong nakakita ng kanilang partners at successful sa kanilang married life. And how I wish di ba, someday nga ay maging ganun din ang mangyari sa akin,” she said.

(And I might be misquoted, but I respect everyone who find their partners and become successful in their married life. And how I wish someday, that will also happen for me.)

The Unmarried Wife

Aside from Banana Split, Angelica is now busy promoting her new movie The Unmarried Wife, directed by Maryo J delos Reyes. Angelica stars with Dingdong Dantes and Paulo Avelino.

In the movie, Angelica plays Anne, a woman who is hesitant about falling in love because of a painful childhood experience. After she meets and marries, Geoff (Dingdong) she soon discovers his infidelities. While deciding whether to save her marriage and family, she meets Bryan (Paulo) who promises to love her the way she should be loved.
