Black Eyed Peas’ Taboo speaks up about private cancer battle
Taboo says that he's now been cancer-free for two years

MANILA, Philippines – Musician Taboo, real name Jaime Luis Gomez, has opened up about his battle with testicular cancer – which he kept secret until a recent interview.

Taboo, best known for his work as a member of the Black Eyed Peas, told People that he was diagnosed with stage 2 testicular cancer in June 2014. After his diagnosis, he immediately went into surgery and later had to go through chemotherapy. According to a separate report from People, he said that he’s been cancer-free for two years.

“My family and the group were all in shock, but will.i.am instantly reached out to a great doctor who helped me figure out a treatment plan. I was racing against the clock,” he said.

He goes on to say that he turned to music to help him throughout his journey and that his family has inspired him to keep fighting.

He’s working with the American Cancer Society and has released a new single, “The Fight.” Part of the proceeds go to the organization.
