Shia LaBeouf voluntarily submits to alcohol addiction treatment
The actor's rep clarified he has not checked into a rehabilitation facility

MANILA, Philippines – Shia LaBeouf, the American actor best known for his role as Sam Witwicky in the Transformers franchise, has agreed to receive treatment for his alcohol addiction, his representatives said in a statement.

LaBeouf clashed with authorities yet again last week when he lit a cigarette during the Broadway play Cabaret, allegedly shouting at the actors in the middle of the performance. Police said LaBeouf appeared drunk and was disruptive during the performance. LaBeouf’s court appearance for the latest charges are set for just later this month, on July 24.

In the same statement issued by his representative, it was said that LaBeouf  “understands that these recent actions are a symptom of a larger health problem and he has taken the first of many necessary steps towards recovery,” CNN reports .

“Contrary to previous reports, Shia LaBeouf has not checked into a rehabilitation facility but he is voluntarily receiving treatment for alcohol addition.”

This is not the first time LaBeouf’s erratic behavior has earned him a spot in the headlines. At the annual Berlin Film Festival earlier this February, LaBeouf famously walked out of the press conference wearing a paper bag over his head scrawled with the words, “I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE” in black marker. LaBeouf also tweeted the phrase continuously for weeks.

LaBeouf has run into trouble before – including being accused of plagiarizing another writer’s work.

His rise to fame began at the young age of 14, playing the lead in the Disney Channel TV series Even Stevens, going on to book more roles in movies such as Holes, Disturbia, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and, most notably, the Transformers movie franchise. –Rappler.com
