TV roundup: 10 new shows we can’t wait to see
'Constantine,' 'The Flash', 'Gotham,' and others leading the US fall season's TV lineup

MANILA, Philippines – Every year, the fall season in the United States means the return of old faces and new appearances in the TV industry.

During the weeks from September-October, TV channels reveal the pilots of their new series that will keep a lot of pop culture fanatics, casual television viewers, and many more entertained until May or so the following year.

Here are 10 of my own choices for the best upcoming TV series to watch out for this fall:

All dates below are US premiere dates

Constantine (NBC, to premiere October 24)

DC Comics makes another splash on the television screen by bringing their Hellblazer universe to life through NBC’s new show and soon-to-be hit, Constantine.

In the series, Matt Ryan (The Tudors) plays John Constantine, a demon hunter who leaves his cult after failing to save a young girl’s soul from falling to Hell. But thanks to a certain angel, Ryan’s character is drawn back to the fight between good and evil, making for a kick-ass, exciting TV show.

Gotham (Fox, to premiere on September 22)

YES! That’s how excited we are for this series, which begins less than two weeks from now. Set following the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents and before his adventures as the Dark Knight, Gotham will focus on the life of Police Commissioner Jim Gordon (played by Ben McKenzie, The OC), who will investigate the murder of Wayne’s parents along with keeping the peace in crime-filled Gotham City.

FOX’s new TV series will also give insight into the lives of Batman universe characters like Catwoman (Camren Bicondova), Poison Ivy (Clare Foley), Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), and The Riddler (Cory Michael Smith).

Red Band Society (Fox, to premiere on September 17)

Set in a fictional children’s ward in Los Angeles, USA and narrated by a characeter in a coma, Red Band Society takes a look at the different lives of teenagers affected by various life-threatening issues while living in the ward.

Young actors and actresses like Griffin Gluck, Zoe Levin, Charlie Rowe, Astro, Ciara Bravo, and Nolan Sotillo take the lead in Fox’s new comedic and dramatic series.

Madam Secretary (CBS, to premiere on September 21)

In CBS’ new upcoming series, Tea Leoni (Bad Boys) plays Elizabeth McCord, a former CIA agent who takes on the task of being the United States’ Secretary of State by request of the show’s president.

In her new role, Leoni has to maintain order and discipline in the always-busy affairs of the White House while also juggling her duties as a mother at home.

How To Get Away With Murder (ABC, to premiere on September 25)

Coming from the same producer of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, How To Get Away With Murder revolves around the lives of Professor Annalise Keating (Viola Davis, City of Angels) and her law students who get caught in a murder plot and have to figure out a way to get away with it (pun intended).

TVguide.com tells viewers of the new ABC series to expect “Scandal-sized twists and Grey’s-like drama!”

Selfie (ABC, to premiere on September 30)

Becoming a social media star may have its perks, but it also has it cons. In ABC’s new series, Selfie, Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) plays a narcissist who realizes her obsession with becoming an Instagram sensation has left her with lack of actual-life social skills necessary to make a friend or two.

Because of this, Gillan’s character is forced to hire a marketer to teach her how to actually socialize with others, and not just through her phone, which she just can’t seem to leave alone for a moment.

Stalker (CBS, to premiere October 1)

Maggie Q (Nikita) makes a quick return to the TV screen following the end of her latest series as she stars along with Dylan McDermott (The Practice) as LAPD cops who have to deal with stalkers and other love-obsessed criminals whose actions usually lead to fatal results.

The added element to the story, like most cop dramas, is that the protagonists themselves have issues of their own to tackle.

The Flash (CW, to premiere October 7)

This one also deserves a YES! A day before the season 3 premiere of Arrow (based on DC Comics character Oliver Queen, ala Green Arrow), CW TV will launch the pilot episode of their new series, The Flash (based on the DC Comics character of the same name)

Grant Gustin (Glee) will play the fastest man alive on Earth as he looks to resolve crime in Central City following an incident at S.T.A.R Labs that gave him superhuman strength.

He’s also be figuring out the mystery behind his mom’s murder when he was a child that left his wrongly-accused father (John Wesley Shipp, The Flash, 1990-1991)in jail. Multiple outlets have also reported that a crossover episode between Arrow and The Flash will take place sometime between this fall season.

Note: The Pilot episode of The Flash was already leaked on the Internet a few months ago.

Kingdom (DirecTV, to premiere October 8)

DirecTV’s upcoming drama is based on a family indulged in the art of mixed martial arts. The series’ protagonist, Alvey Kulina (Frank Grillo, Prison Break), uses his gym as a training ground for those involved in the sport, including his two sons to be played by Jonathan Tucker (Parenthood) and singer Nick Jonas.

Nick makes his debut as a regular TV cast member after participating in two episodes of Hawaii Five-O’s fourth season.

A to Z (NBC, to premiere October 2)

Not only is NBC’s new series “a student of the How I Met Your Mother school of television,” per TVguide.com, A to Z will also star Cristin Milioti, the long-searched for mother in the recently-concluded TV series.

In her new role, she will play Zelda, the love interest of Andrew (Ben Feldman, Mad Men). The show will revolve around the two lovebirds with different views on relationships in classic rom-com fashion that should earn the adoration of hopeless romantics.
