WATCH: Singing nun, ‘Voice of Italy’ champ, sings ‘Like a Virgin’

MANILA, Philippines – Last June, Sister Cristina Scuccia won the top prize in The Voice of Italy – and now she’s back with a new cover, making the unusual choice to sing Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.”

Her upcoming album, due in November. 

“If you read the lyrics without being influenced by what has gone before, you discover that it is a song about the capacity of love to make people new again. To release them from their past. And this is how I wanted to interpret it,” Sister Cristina told the Catholic newspaper Avvenire, reported The Guardian. 

She described the cover as more “a secular prayer than a pop song”.

Following her big win, she had previously said that she was following Pope Francis’s appeals to bring the Catholic Church closer to ordinary people and was not shy about her newfound success. – with reports from Agence France-Presse/Rappler.com
