Luis, Toni team up for ‘The Voice of the Philippines’ season 2
Alex Gonzaga and Robi Domingo also return, plus details about a new twist on the show
MANILA, Philippines – Hosts Toni Gonzaga and Luis Manzano expressed their excitement in hosting the new season of The Voice, which will start on Sunday, October 26 with the blind auditions.
“I’m really happy about the hosts of Season 1 and Kids teaming up. Of course, I’m proud to be back too, since this format is really close to my heart. We get to discover more talents and I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting season,” Toni said during the press conference for the show Thursday, October 23.
“In The Voice Kids, we were impressed by big voices coming from little children, and that proves that innate talent of pinoy singers. This season, I got to travel the country and I saw the amazement and joy in each artist when I gave them the envelope. During the blinds, I was surprised and checked some of them. So I got to know their inspirations and motivations,” said Luis, who hosted The Voice Kids.

Joining Luis and Toni are Alex Gonzaga and Robi Domingo, who will serve as the V reporters of the show. The two will be in-charge of the social media and will report during the show’s live streaming.

During the press conference, it was non-stop laughter, with jokes from all the hosts. Asked if they were to choose a coach, Luis said he would choose Lea.

“I would also join her (Lea) kasi mas (because) background ko ang Broadway, and musicals,” Luis said.

“Given a chance…I will not choose,” Alex added, which got everyone laughing.

“But hypothetically, it would be Coach Sarah because lagi ko siya gustong makausap, makasama, kakuwentuhan (I like talking to her, sharing stories with her),” Alex added.

Robi also said that he would choose Sarah because as a former Pinoy Big Brother contestant, Sarah can share her experiences as a product of a reality singing competition.

In the new season of The Voice, the 4 judges – Sarah Geronimo, Lea Salonga, Apl de Ap, and Bamboo will have to assemble 14 artists to form a team by the end of the blind auditions.

But there is a new twist – the coaches can do the steal, where they can select a contestant who’s been turned down by another coach.

Toni said that The Voice is a platform for aspiring singers and what is critical is the work they put in after the contest.

“The competition begins when you enter showbiz, because ang labanan dito is longevity and standing out from the crowd. And how to market yourself and how you preserve what you have without being blown away by the glitz and glamour of the industry – kung paano mo ipapakita ang talent mo (how you will show your talent),Toni said. – Rappler.com
