You’ll soon see Spider-Man in Marvel movies
The famous webslinger will first make an appearance in an unspecified Marvel film

MANILA, Philippines – Fans can now rejoice: Sony Pictures and Marvel/Disney will jointly be working together when it comes to webslinging superhero Spider-Man, which means that he might appear in a future Avengers film, or sooner.

Although he is part of the Marvel Comic Book universe, the character did not appear in the Marvel films because Sony has owned the film rights to Spider-Man since 1999.

Now that the character is now allowed to make appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man might possibly appear in Captain America: Civil War in 2016.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will work alongside Sony executive Amy Pascal as co-producers of a new solo Spider-Man film due for a 2017 release.

“I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie. Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years,” said Kevin Feige in a statement.

A fresh start for Spidey

This will be a fresh start for Spider-Man; The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed in the box office in 2014, the lowest-grossing out of the five Spider-Man films – which includes Sam Raimi’s trilogy starring Tobey Maguire as Spidey, according to the BBC.

Since the announcement of a new solo Spider-Man film co-produced by Feige and Pascal, this might mean the end of Andrew Garfield Spider-Man era, according to the LA Times.

The third Amazing Spider-Man film was postponed to 2018, while a spinoff entitled The Sinister Six – focused on Spidey’s notorious enemies – is still due for release in 2016. – Rappler.com
