Oscars 2015: Julianne Moore wins Best Actress

MANILA, Philippines – Julianne Moore won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role as linguistics professor Alice Howland in Still Alice. The awards show was held Sunday, February 22 (February 23 in Manila). 

“I’ve been honored to be among you every step of the way,” she said of her fellow nominees. Julianne thanked her manager, her husband, her parents, and the cast and crew of Still Alice. “So many people with this disease feel isolated and marginalized…people with Alzheimer’s deserve to be seen, so that we can find a cure.”

“Thank you for giving me a home,” she said to her husband and children. 

In the film, Alice Howard is a professor at Columbia University who learns that she is suffering the early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. The film explores her experience with the disease and how it impact her life, as well as those around her, as her condition deteriorates. 

This is Julianne’s first win and 5th Oscar nomination, having previously been nominated for her roles in Boogie Nights, The End of the Affair, Far from Heaven, and The Hours. – Rappler.com
