MANILA, Philippines – Singer and West End actress Rachelle Ann Go stepped into her glass slippers as she performed “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes,” in line with the release of the live-action film of Cinderella.
Originally written and composed by Mack David, Al Hoffman, and Jerry Livingston for the 1950 animated film, the song was revived with a whole new arrangement and music video, but still maintained the main theme of Cinderella – never stop dreaming.
Disney chose Rachelle to perform the song, saying that she embodied the values of Cinderella:
“We were looking for someone special, not just to sing the song beautifully but to also deliver the message reliably and inspire audiences. We chose Rachelle Ann Go as she embodies the positivity and inspirations of Cinderella, and is a living idol for young Filipinos everywhere who never stopped following her dreams,” said Amit Malhotra, General Manager of Walt Disney Studios, Southeast Asia in a press release.
Rachelle Ann Go first achieved her recording star dreams by winning the Search for a Star contest in 2003, followed by her release of albums and concert performances.
She is currently in the London West End’s revival of Miss Saigon, a story about a 17-year old Vietnamese bargirl named Kim who falls in love with Chris Scott, an American soldier leaving Saigon to return to America. Rachelle plays Saigon bar girl Gigi Van Tranh, who initially won the “Miss Saigon” contest. Her role in the play has already earned her different accolades.
Disney’s live action Cinderella opens in Philippine theaters in March, and will also feature the Frozen short Frozen Fever.
The music video of “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” premiered on Disney Channel and Disney Channel Asia YouTube Channel on Saturday, March 7. – Rappler.com
