6 PH celebrity moms on what they’d like to teach their kids

MANILA, Philippines – Moms are our superheroes – and here, celebrity moms share what they’d like to teach their kids as they are growing up. (READ: 15 PH celebs: The best advice mom ever gave me)

Judy Ann Santos 

Judy Ann Santos says she does her best to remind her two children about the importance of being simple. (READ: Judy Ann Santos on motherhood: Patience, compassion, sacrifice)

“You try to find ways on how to teach your children na hindi sila masyado sumandal sa luho. Kasi hindi naman iyan palagi forever. I would always tell Yohan (her eldest) ‘You know this is not always. Time will come na hopefully not, baka biglang dumating sa point na we downgrade our lifestyle. 

(You try to find ways on how to teach your children to not get use to vices. because you cannot have it forever. I would always tell Yohan (her eldest) ‘You know this is not for always. Time will come and hopefully it won’t, that we might have to downgrade our lifestyle.)

“We prepare them for that because hindi naman talaga natin masasabi kung hanggang kailan tayo dito sa industry, hindi natin masasabi kung hanggang kailan tayo mamahalin ng tao. But the reality is you have to prepare your children for that if in case time will come, that biglang may change na ganun sa buhay namin hindi sila mahihirapan kasi hindi namin sila maproprotektahan.”

(We prepare them for that because we cannot say until when we will be in this industry, we cannot say until when people will love us. But the reality is you have prepare your children for that in case time will come, that suddenly there is change in life, they will not have a hard time – because we cannot protect them from that.)  

Lotlot de Leon

“I’ve learned so many things from Mama Guy (Nora Aunor). But siguro the things I try to teach my children that I’ve learned from her is to be respectful towards other people regardless who they are regardless where come from. And to always be humble.” 

Lea Salonga

In the May issue of Yes magazine, Lea said she has no plans of spoiling her daughter Nicole.

“I’m not going to spoil her,” Lea said. “I tell her ‘You’re not just gonna get that.. You have to deserve  it.’ I ask her, ‘Why are we buying that? It’s just gonna collect dust on the shelf. Obviously, we indulge her a little bit, but not needlessly.”

Carmina Villaroel

In an interview with Pep last March, Carmina said that she will be a stage mom if ever her twins Mavy and Cassy join showbiz.  That’s why she understands the situation of the likes of Divine Geronimo (Sarah’s mom) and Annabelle Rama (Ruffa Gutierrez’s mom).

“Kaya kami ni Zoren (Legaspi), ‘Oo nga naman, they’re just protecting their children.’ Siguro sa ibang tao, iba lang ang dating.

(That’s why Zoren and I ‘Yes, the’re just protecting their children.’ I guess for other people, it’s just different.)

“Pero ako, pakikialaman ko talaga ang outfit ng anak ko. (But me, I will definitely meddle with the outfits of my child.) Okay, fine, may stylist, but I will talk to the stylist,” Carmina said.

Carmina also said that while she is conservative, she would rather not be compared to other moms. 

“Pagdating sa anak, oo, konserbatibo ako. (When it comes to my child, yes I am conservative.)

“But you know, I don’t like to compare myself kay Mommy Divine,” Carmina said. 

LJ Reyes

For LJ Reyes, she says she makes sure that she is first and foremost a mom to her son Aki, her child with ex-boyfriend Paulo Avelino. In fact, she loves posting photos of her son on Instagram.

In post, LJ shared one of the moments she and Aki bonded through music.

   

“Somebody’s learning to play his first musical instrument! I love music and I learned piano when I was small. Ngayon, ito na bonding namin sabay kami magplay ng piano! #HappyBabyHappyMommy #MommyDiaries #akiboi,” LJ wrote. (Now this is our bonding time, we play the piano together.)

Lucy Torres-Gomez

Here are a few words from Ormoc Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez about the value of  a “wise no” from mom: 

“I always say na maybe it’s the kind of ‘no’ that only time will tell that it’s a wise ‘no.’ When I look back at my own growing-up years, there were so many things about which my mom said:, ‘Pagsasawaan mo rin…hindi naman kailangan magmadali (You’ll get tired of it… you don’t need to be in a hurry.),” she said in an interview in the May issue of Yes magazine.
