Vice Ganda recalls suicide attempt, shares advice for the youth
Vice encourages young people going through tough times to hang in there. 'Your situation today is not your final destination,' he says

MANILA, Philippines – Comedian Vice Ganda shared that he battled depression and tried to commit suicide at 19.

Speaking on It’s Showtime Monday, June 15 while holding his trophy for Phenomenal Star from the Box Office Entertainment Awards, Vice talked about the painful experience. (READ: ‘It’s Showtime’ hosts promote #ProudToBeMe philosophy)

Sabi ko, I am just so blessed. Bigla akong nagka-flashback,” Vice said.

(I just want to share something. Last night while i was lying down, I said wow, 4 years in a row, I’ve been given the phenomenal box office award. I said, ‘I am just so blessed,’ and then I had a flashback.)

(For those few who know about my story, those who were able to watch my MMK episode before, I was 19 years old, I tried to commit suicide because of depression. I drank different types of medicine, I almost died. When l woke up, I was at the hospital. That was my intention, to kill myself before.)

(I said that if that had pushed through, I wouldn’t be able to achieve this, what position I’m in now.)

“I am just so blessed na hinarang ng Diyos ‘yung pangit kong trip noong panahon na iyon dahil kung hindi, hindi ko na-experience lahat ng napakagandang bagay sa mundo na nararanasan ko ngayon,” Vice said.

(I am just so blessed that God stopped me at the time because I would have not experienced all the beautiful things that I am experiencing now.)

Vice said he hopes that his experience may inspire young people who may be going through similar things today.

Your situation today is not your final destination.”

(For the young people today who are going through what I went through, whatever bad thing you are planning to do, do not do it anymore because God has plans for you. Just hang on, hold on. Your situation today is not your final destination.)

Recently, Vice and other Showtime stars also took to social media to launch the Proud to be Me campaign, which aims to encourage self-confidence and fight bullying. – Rappler.com
