“The one piece of advice that I’ll never forget is to keep my chin up,” shared Anne Curtis at the UNICEF and Cebu Pacific launch of their Change for Good project last June 16.

“Out of all the controversies that have happened in my life, he’s one person that would always boost my confidence and make me feel my worth no matter what happens.”

Gary Valenciano

Gary Valenciano said that there are only few times that he and his father had a “heart to heart” talk. However, he said that there’s “one thing” that his own father imparted, which he would want to “practice with [his] children.”

“He said, ‘Gary, no matter what happens, I’m always gonna be your dad. So I’m always gonna be around for you.'” shared Gary at the UNICEF and Cebu Pacific launch of their Change for Good project last June 16.

“And I think that it wasn’t advice,” he continued. “It was truth, and the truth that he practiced since I was born, which I also, in turn, try to practice with my children since they were born. And up to now, and until this heart stops beating, it’s going to be like that for them.”

At the grand press conference for the upcoming show Born For You last Tuesday, June 14, Elmo shared what he has learned from his late father, rapper Francis Magalona.

We all know how patriotic my dad is. Siguro, it’s how his love, his passion for music and family, iyon yung talagang up to now, is what I hold on to na even if he was so weak na [from his illness], like na talagang if the people want to do this, lalabas siya, he would come out and magpeperform siya kahit he was already weak. Yung strength and endurance niya to his craft, that’s something that I hold on to,” he said.

The strength and endurance for his craft, that’s something I hold on to.)

At the mini-press conference where he accepted his Best Actor award from the World Cinema Festival in Brazil, Jake, said he got his risk-taking attitude from his Spanish father.

“I learned from my dad to be selfless because growing up, my dad and I had so many misunderstandings and he was not able to explain himself. And there are times I built resentment towards him na nagalit ako in a way na hindi ko maintidihan (I got mad in a way that I couldn’t understand).”

“Instead of trying to explain, instead of giving me what I want, pinanindigan [niya] what kind of a father he was because he knew he was doing the right thing. And now that I’m 23 [I know] everything he was doing was for our own good.”

“My dad is a pretty matapang (courageous) na guy. And he taught me that it’s better to regret something that you’ve done than something you’ve never done.”

“I’m his girl version. If there is one thing I’ve learned from him is to treat everyone equally. I am very hard-headed. I do what I want and naiintindihan niya iyon kasi pareho kami (he understands that because we’re alike).”

“My dad, he was very strict. He’s the eldest in the family and I’m the eldest. I’m the first apo (grandchild) and the first pamangkin (nephew).  He would spoil me but he was very strict. he was my first teacher, he would teach me how to sing. Eventually when I grew up, I saw it was for my own good. I was really happy that he was strict with me, he inculcated all those values…and I am thankful because that is the foundation of who I am now .”

For Judy Ann, she considers her brother, actor Jeffrey Santos as her father figure since her dad left them when she was young.

Si kuya…as much as possible hindi niya talaga pinapakita yung problem (he never shows us when there’s a problem). And that’s one of things I like about him until now that I try to copy..ang lakas makagood vibes. At the same time napaka-adventurous ni kuya, ang dami kong natutunan (I learned so much) like rock climbing, mountain climbing. I love the simplest ways of life because of him.”

I never thought I’d be a patient man. My dad is a patient and very loving man. (I can count on one hand the times he got angry with me) Now I’m finding myself having a little more patience with my kids.”

“My dad, nung bata pa kami nagtuturo na siya sa aming magkakapatid na magpakasipag kayo, huwag kayong tamad. Mag-ipon kayo para sa kinabukasan.”

(My dad, when we were still young, taught us to be hardworking and not to be lazy. Also he told us to save up for our future.)

Shaira Mae, TV 5 star

“Ang daddy ko kasi seaman siya so hindi ko siya kasama all the time, every two months lang siya nag-stay. Sabi niya lang sa akin, trabaho lang huwag magrereklamo and be confident, always give your best para may susunod pa sa career ko and be positive lang.”

(My daddy is a seaman so I don’t get to be with him often, only every two months. He told us to work, not to complain, and be confident. To always give my best so there will more opportunities in my career, and to be positive.)

“Definitely love for family. To put your family first above everything. Halos magpakamatay ka na sa pagod para lang masuportahan ang pamilya mo, malaking value iyon natutunan ko. Kasi us growing up, nakita ko talaga he would do anything para lang maging maginhawa yung buhay namin.”

(Love for family. To put your family first above everything. To the point you would kill yourself with exhaustion just to support your family, that’s a great value I’ve learned. Because growing up, I really saw how he would do anything just for us to have a comfortable life.)

“The trait I got from my dad is to be very respectful to everyone kahit sino sila (no matter what).

Andi Eigenmann

“Aside from work ethic, I think it’s the intensity of my dad as an actor. I guess most people na nakatrabaho ko would know na sobrang kinikilig ako pagnasasabi nga nila na anak ako ni Jaclyn Jose and Mark Gil. Isa iyon sa mga best compliments na narinig ko.” (I guess most people that I’ve worked with would know that I still get giddy when they say I am the daughter of Jaclyn Jose and Mark Gil. That is one of the best compliments I’ve gotten.)

Gabby Eigenmann

Malapit siya sa family, he’s the heart and soul of the family. I think na pass yan sa akin kasi pag may problema bawat members nung family, ako yung nilalapitan and I guess the passion for everything. “

(I think being caring, I got that from dad, being a funny guy. He’s close to the family…I think that was passed to me because when family members have problems, they approach me, and I guess the passion for everything.)

“He would always be the barkada type to us. Yan yung in-apply ko sa mga kids ko. I’m not just your dad, I’m also your friend kasi the more they grow older, mas marami silang secrets…just to be honest with me since I have been through what you are going through.”

(He would always be like a friend to us. That’s what I appled to my kids. I’m not just your dad, I’m also your friend. The older they get, they have more secrets.)
