The young singer talks to Rappler about how she got started and how far she's come

MANILA, Philippines – 17 year-old Macy Kate is living the dream of many teenage girls her age. She started making YouTube videos in 2012, singing covers and shooting makeup tutorials. (IN PHOTOS: YouTube stars in Manila, all set for Fan Fest)

Macy’s spunk caught the attention of fellow YouTube star Kurt Hugo Schneider, who started working with talents on online channels. Eventually, he took her under his wing. Her collaborations with other YouTube stars such as Sean Kingston, Tyler Ward, and Max Schneider made her visible in other online communities, growing her fanbase.

Now, Macy’s in the Philippines along with fellow YouTubers, including Kurt, for YouTube Fan Fest, where she’ll finally get to meet her Pinoy fans in the flesh.

“YouTube has kinda changed my life and actually got me on the Warped Tour…I’m on that this summer,” she said.

“Next step, I’m actually working on my EP, to get out there so people can have original music, and also just touring…the fans have been awesome,” she added.

Currently, Macy has more than 200,000 subscribers. Her breakthrough video, “Radioactive,” has over 18 million views on Kurt’s channel.

She’s excited to go on tour around the United States not only to share her music, but to go on the ground and reach out to the community she built online.
