Before he signed the contact, Ogie tweeted his followers:

Ogie was an exclusive artist of GMA for more than 18 years.

His contract with TV5 not just makes him an exclusive star of the network, but he will also be the head of the network’s new music department. Ogie is currently the president of OPM (Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit).

During the contract signing, Ogie said he was simply returning to TV5 which he considers his home from way back in 1994.

“TV5 was called ABC5 then. I was part of the gag show ‘Tropang Trumpo,’ kung natatandaan pa ninyo ang show na iyon,” he laughs.

“Then I also hosted the first local franchise of ‘Family Feud’ on Channel 5. Kaya maganda ang relationship ko with the people of Channel 5 kahit noon pa [That’s why my relationship with the people of Channel 5 has been good even before].”

It also helps that Ogie is close to TV5 Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan.

“My friendship with MVP goes a long, long way back. Hindi pa uso ang mga network wars, magkaibigan na kami, [We were already friends way before this thing called the network wars] and I have helped him sa ilang mga events niya [with some of his events] in the past.

“It’s just nice to know that he is always there for me and my family. Iba na talaga kapag ninong mo rin sa kasal, ‘di ba [It’s different when he’s also your godfather, isn’t it]?”

Ogie noted that MVP was his ninong in both his wedding with Michelle Van Eimeren in 1998 (the couple divorced in 2009) and his wedding with Songbird Regine Velasquez in 2010.

Present at the contract signing were TV5 president and CEO Noel C. Lorenzana and newly appointed chief entertainment content officer Wilma V. Galvante, who was also a ninang in Ogie’s wedding with Regine.

According to Ms. Galvante, Ogie will do a musical-variety show, a sitcom, a teleserye, a game show, and possibly a revival of “Tropang Trumpo.”

On leaving GMA, Ogie made it a point to make a proper “goodbye” to the people he had worked with for 18 years.

Ayaw ko naman kasi ng pipirma sa TV5 nang hindi man lang ako nagpapaalam.” (I don’t want to sign up with TV5 without bidding them [GMA] a proper farewell.

“I don’t want to burn bridges. It’s just that I have to move on and accept this new challenge in my career.

“I’m already in my 40s. Hindi na tayo bagets. [We’re not young anymore.] Long-term na ang hinahanap nating trabaho. [The work we’re looking for is long-term.] I can’t be a singer and comedian and sex symbol forever, ‘di ba?” he laughs. – Rappler.com
