Women plan their wedding, men plan their proposals.

CLARK, Pampanga – Women plan their wedding, men plan their proposals.

For 32 year old Patrick Obias it took all of 4 weeks to plan his proposal for his girlfriend of 3 years, lawyer Caleen Chanyungco.

“I had many ideas in mind, I wanted something big, something special. One day I ran my ideas by my friend and when he suggested that I do it in front of a plane, I knew it was exactly what I going to do,” he told Rappler.

Patrick’s friend Carlo Sanchez works for the newly launched AirAsia Philippines. The airline’s Airbus A320 aircraft was about to be introduced at the 17th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.

The aircraft, according to the plan, was going to be the backdrop for the proposal.

So in the wee hours of February 12, he woke his girlfriend up and told her they’d make a trip down to Clark Field, go biking, and then drop by the AirAsia booth to support their friend.

“For some reason I knew something was going to happen today, and that’s why I didn’t want to wear my bike suit,” Caleen shared.

“I had told Patrick, of all proposals, I didn’t want one when we were biking because I knew I’d look all sweaty, but that’s exactly what he did,” she said.

When the couple arrived in front of the plane a swarm of television cameras were already pointed at them, but it wasn’t until Caleen saw her best friend alight from the plane that she knew what was about to unfold.

She immediately burst into tears and into the arms of her soon to be fiance. Moments later he was down on one knee, and then a diamond engagement ring placed on her fingers. She said yes, of course.

Patrick met Caleen through a common friend after Caleen had asked him to introduce her to a “nice guy” after she had decided that she was ready to date.

Six months later they officially became a couple. – Rappler.com
