MANILA, Philippines – Designers based in the Philippines will now get their time to shine as DesignCrowd.com.ph launches the first Philippine Logo Design Awards.
DesignCrowd is an online marketplace that crowdsources designs for businesses and a networking platform for designers all over the world. Named Startup of the Week by Wired UK in March 2012, this Australian-originated company now has over 115,000 registered designers.
The 2013 Philippine Logo Design Awards aims to find the best logo designer in the Philippines. While it hopes to discover emerging design talent, the contest is also open to professional designers. Students are also encouraged to join. Only designers based in the Philippines are eligible.
Designers simply choose an exisiting original logo design in their portfolio and upload it to DesignCrowd. Only one design per designer will be accepted so contestants should pick their best creations.
The deadline for all uploaded logo designs is on May 12, Sunday.
Once the contest closes, the DesignCrowd team will come up with a shortlist of the best designs. Netizens will then vote for their favorite designs.
The first-place winner gets P30,000 while the second and 3rd-placer will split P20,000. Winners will be announced at the end of May. Click here for more information on the mechanics.
Vibrant design scene
Since its launch in October 2012, the Philippine arm of DesignCrowd, DesignCrowd.com.ph, has grown by 70% in terms of registered designers. Three of the top 15 designers worldwide are based in the Philippines.
The country’s vibrant design scene is one reason why DesignCrowd founder and CEO Alec Lynch decided to launch the Philippine Logo Design Awards.
“We are planning to run similar contests in other key geographies but decided to launch in the Philippines first because we see it as an emerging design hub. We’re constantly impressed with the quality of design coming out of this region,” he said.
The contest is DesignCrowd’s own way of adding to the vibrance of the local design scene.
Lynch enthused, “We hope the contest will encourage more Filipino designers to work online and we hope it will help DesignCrowd attract more young Filipino designers to our marketplace.” – Rappler.com
