STEADY SUNDAYS. Sundays are best spent with family and the people and the people who matter most. Resorts World Manila is a good place to bond with them, whether it be over food or a good show. Photo by Rappler.

You wake up with a jolt, jarred right out of a languorous sleep after a fitful night of revelry. Wake up, anak, your mother says, in that tone she has always used since you came to consciousness at three. You’re pushing 30, and the tone, in all of its varying inflections, still remains the same. It’s a Sunday morning, and it’s family day.

Family time remains the Filipino’s holy Sabbath, whether spent in the church or elsewhere. A typical Filipino family will go to mass/service, have lunch either at home or at the mall, and catch a movie or musical.

And wouldn’t it be nice to hold it all within the same vicinity?

At the Resorts World Manila vicinity, you can choose to attend mass at the Shrine of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, a short walking distance away from the main entertainment complex if this is part of your family’s weekly routine. There is an 11am mass at the Newport Mall Plaza, too.

Food your religion? There’s nothing like bonding with your loved ones over glorious food, coupled with a recap of the week that was. Catching up with your loved ones is always a delight, whether it be over dimsum at Tao Yuan at Newport Mall or a sumptuous buffet at The Terrace in Maxims Hotel. There is a wide selection of restaurants at the Resorts World Manila area, from American burger diners to Japanese fusion cafes.

And what’s a Sunday afternoon without a good movie? The Newport Mall’s cinemas go ‘round the clock from Monday to Saturday, and until midnight on Sunday!  Its inviting interiors provide warmth amidst the chilly airconditioning.  If you watch a movie at Newport’s Ultra Cinema 1, you can press a button on your seat, and a butler will offer you unlimited drinks and popcorn . A word of warning, though: the La-Z-Boy seats in cinema 1 can get a bit too cozy so make sure you take an afternoon nap before you watch. Or if you’re feeling a little cheeky, you may give the butler special instructions to wake you up.

LUXURIOUS CINEMA EXPERIENCE. Newport Mall's cinemas not only run for longer hours than the average, but also can offer comfort like no other cinema in the metro. La-Z-Boy seats and a butler, anyone? Photo by Rappler.

If you want a break from the usual cinema blockbusters, the Newport Performing Arts Theater is home to regular stage performances that will capture the hearts of the young and old. From remakes of the classic Sound of Music to the staging of The King and I, family members of all ages will enjoy the theater scene. It is a refreshing break from the usual theater venues, being relatively new and shiny with untarnished golden trimmings reminiscent of Broadway glamor.

Of course, there’s also something for the kids at Newport Mall. The arcade scene, for all of online and console gaming’s hype, is still thriving, alive, and well. Keep the kids busy all afternoon at GameZoo, where games range from bubble busters to the more hardcore gunslinging that you might want to try out. Whether you have a kid of your own, or if you’re being the doting tito/tita that you are, it’d be nice to bond over some video games.

Well then, until the next weekend, buddy! –Rappler.com
