The baby due this July can look forward to sleeping to the melody of Welsh composer Paul Mealor’s song, “Sleep On.”

Performed by New Zealand artist Hayley Westenra, the song is a prayer for the royal tot to stay strong despite the long road of life.

Here are the lyrics of the lullaby:

The world out there,
The heavens all to sleep.
And I am here,
A watch with you to keep.

Sleep on, sleep on,
Sleep deeper, sleep strong.
Sleep on, sleep on,
The road of life is long.

I whisper a prayer,
May your path be clear.
Sleep on.

May you be wise,
In answer to the call.
May you still rise,
If ever you should fall.

Sleep on, sleep on,
Sleep deeper, sleep strong.
Sleep on, sleep on,
The road of life is long.

I whisper a prayer,
May your path be clear.
Sleep on, sleep on, sleep on.

It will be sent to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in the first week of July.

Mealor’s “Ubi Caritas” motet was performed at William and Kate’s wedding in 2011.

The 37-year-old composer told The Telegraph, “After writing music fo the Royal Wedding  it seemed natural to provide the musical accompaniment for the next stage of the royal couple’s journey together.”

Westenra, 26, is a soprano and classical crossover artist who juggles her singing career with her duties as United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Ambassador. She has sold over 4 million albums and has performed for Prince Charles, father of Prince William.

“Sleep On” is part of Westenra’s album featuring other lullabies. The album was released last June. – With reports from Pia Ranada/Rappler.com
