August 18, Alabang Town Center

Youtube sensation and America’s Got Talent Season 5 semi-finalisr Lindsey Stirling will be performing for free at the Alabang Town Center.

Side-A Concert for a Cause

August 20, Music Museum

One of the Philippines’ most famous musical acts will be holding a concert for the benefit of kids with cancer being aided by the iHelp Foundation.

Dance

Ballet Manila: Tatlo Pang Kwento ni Lola Basyang

Opens August 23 at the Aliw Theater.

Luz Fernandez will be playing the iconic story teller’s character as she and Ballet Manila tell the audience three classic tales through dance.

Theater

Pamana

Opens on August 21, Meralco Theater

Pamana is a docu-musical dedicated to the late Sen Benigno Aquino and former President Cory Aquino. It tells the story of a family and its 3 generations recalling the events that transpired during the EDSA revolution.

Alice in Wonderland

August 17 to December 15

Lewis Caroll’s classic tale comes alive as Repertory Philippines stages its own version of Alice in Wonderland.

Ritual World

August 22-25, 29-31, September 1

The Shaharazade Theater Company, an up and coming independent theater group, will continue showing RitualWorld (but this time, in a different venue) — a theater piece showcasing rituals from five different countries, aiming to explore humanity within an everchanging society.

Singaporean Food Fest

Love Asian food? Dusit Thani Manila is having a Singaporean Food Fest at its Basix All-Day Dining Restaurant. The buffet spread features Nonya Laksa, Singaporean Chili Crab, Bak KutTeh, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Goreng, Char KwayTeow, among other Singaporean favorites and will last until August 18.

The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

The Espresso Cream Latte & Espresso Cream Ice Blended® will be making a comeback and you get to have first dibs on tasting them. Just visit any CBTL branch on August 18 from 10:00am to 11:30am.

National Food Fair

August 21-25, Megatrade Hall

Cooking demos, food tasting, and seminars will be conducted throughout the event. See a Coffee Pavilion and a Filipino Kitchen that will also be put up to highlight provincial specialties.

Here are the movies that will be coming out in your local commercial theaters starting August 21:

 

R.I.P.D. Rest In Peace Department

 

Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges star as two cops tasked by the otherworldly Rest In Peace Department to protect the living from an increasingly destructive array of souls who refuse to move peacefully to the other side.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

This is the film adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s frst book in her series of bestsellers. Clary Fay finds out that she belongs to a long line of demon slayers after her mother gets abducted by one.

Planes

A cropdusting plane overcomes his fear of heights to join an aerial race that will take him around the world.

The Conjuring

Based on the true story of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren who were called to help a family whose farmhouse is being haunted by a disturbing presence.

Meanwhile, you can catch six silent films at the 7th International Silent Film Festival happening at the EDSA Shangri-La Cineplex from August 23-25. For more info, visit the Goethe Institut website.
