Filipino tenor Nolyn Cabahug dies

MANILA, Philippines – Classical singer Nolyn Cabahug died on Monday, November 2, after suffering from renal failure. He was 59 years old.

A message from his daughter Marian confirming the news was reposted by friends on Facebook.

“Thank you all for praying. Papa has left. And is serving in a higher calling. He has been called to sing and give praise to our Creator personally,” Marian said. His death was also confirmed by radio station 98.7 DZFE on its Facebook page. 

According to a report from ABS-CBN, Nolyn was taken to the ICU of the National  Kidney and Transplant Institute days before he died. TV Patrol quoted Nolyn’s sister Lisa as saying the remains of her brother will be cremated on Wednesday, November 4.  A memorial service and tribute concert is scheduled on Thursday, November 5.

Friends in the industry such as Ryan Cayabyab and Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano offered their condolences to Nolyn’s family. A benefit concert is scheduled for November 5.

Nolyn attended the University fo the Philippines, where he studied under the College of Music. A mentor to others as well as choir master and star of several productions, Nolyn has also won several awards over the course of his long career in music, including two Aliw awards won in 2003 and 2005.  – Rappler.com
