In a statement on the Scholastic websiteEllie Berger, president of Trade Publishing, said they are pleased to be printing the book version of the play.

“As the US print publisher, Scholastic introduced Harry Potter and JK Rowling’s Wizarding World to American readers nearly 20 years ago and experienced firsthand the anticipation and excitement of the publication of each of the books over the years,” she said.  We are thrilled to publish Harry Potter and the Cursed Child this summer.”

The play picks up 19 years from the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. According to Pottermore, a treasure trove of information for all things Harry Potter, the story will center around Harry and his son, Albus Severus.

“While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted,” said the official synopsis on publisher Little, Brown’s website.

Little, Brown CEO David Shelley said the firm was “thrilled” to be publishing the script.

“JK Rowling and her team have received a huge number of appeals from fans who can’t be in London to see the play and who would like to read the play in book format – and so we are absolutely delighted to be able to make it available for them,” he added.

Responding to a fan on Twitter, Rowling also clarified that only the script, written by Jack Thorne, is being published.
