Author Jessica Zafra hospitalized

MANILA, Philippines – Jessica Zafra, writer, editor, and publisher, is reported to have been hospitalized at the Makati Medical Center for dehydration. 

Facebook user Jose Pablo Salud reposted on Facebook a message from Tina Cuyugan.

The message contains information that Zafra has been hospitalized since late Monday night, May 26. She had fever several days prior and was found on the staircase of her apartment building – “conscious but disoriented.”

Her dehydration resulted in an electrolyte imbalance and her CT and MRI scans showed inflammation of the brain, which could have been caused by an infection. 

Cuyugan added that Zafra has been put under neurological observation.

Zafra’s sister Cheryl is looking after her, but Cuyugan said Zafra is in need of financial assistance. Working freelance, Zafra does not have health insurance.

Zafra is well-known for her works such as the Twisted series, 500 People You Meet in Hell, and The Word Eaters. She was also a TV host for Points of View in Studio 23 and a radio jock for the program Twisted on a Sunday on 103.5 K-Lite. She is a 3-time Palanca awardee for the Short Story Category. – Rappler.com
