LOOK: SM Youth’s SMYTH line features Troye Sivan
The South African-Australian Youtuber-turned-singer is the face of equal opportunity threads that celebrate being youth AF

MANILA, Philippines – In June, fans were shookt when Troye Sivan dropped by Manila to shoot a campaign for SM Youth’s new line, SMYTH. The sub-section is a unisex brand with trendy prints, embroidered pieces, mix-and-match basics, and bottoms that can be worn by absolutely anyone. And who better to represent such a brand than the gender-fluid singer himself?

In July, SMYTH released its clothing line nationwide, with a mini fashion show officially launching the brand.

The event was held on July 25 at SM Makati and the set-up exuded the same youthful vibrancy as the brand it was promoting. From the prop flamingoes chilling around the place, the curtain of pink and blue bananas at the photobooth, to the industrial fluorescent lights strung in a haphazard pattern onstage (more on that later), and bright lights drenching the whole event area in an IG-worthy neon filter, it was definitely a high-key millennial situation.

The fluorescent lights eventually revealed the word “SMYTH” in big, bold letters. And then the show began: the SM Youth Ambassadors, namely, Tommy Esguerra, Janna Tee, Richard Juan, Erika Kristensen, Kaila Estrada, Macauly Lofgren, and Kyle Perry walked out styled in head-to-toe SMYTH.

The summer-themed collection featured prints like LA-style palm trees, bananas, nautical symbols, and of course flamingoes (hence, the décor). The fashion will make you feel like you’re on a sunny trip to the beach instead of battling the bagyo. It was thrilling to see the same article of clothing worn in different ways by both the guys and gals as they sauntered down the runway while Troye Sivan’s upbeat anthem “Youth” boomed in the background.

The silky Hawaiian shirts, soft button down shirts in pastel hues (starring millennial pink), bold prints, and slim cuts transcend the traditional men’s and women’s section of shopping. Just as brand ambassador Troye Sivan doesn’t identify with gender norms, the collection encourages you to experiment because there are no rules. SMYTH tells you to be young, wild, and free.

The Smyth collection is available in all SM department stores nationwide. – Rappler.com
