DOT proposes Davao to host Miss Earth 2016– report
DOT Secretary Wanda Teo has met with Miss Earth representatives

MANILA, Philippines – Another international pageant could be held in the country, but this time, down south in Davao City, the hometown of President Rodrigo Duterte.

According to a report from ABS-CBN News, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Wanda Teo met the reigning Miss Earth Angelia Ong and Lorraine Shuck of Carousel Productions, which owns and runs Miss Earth and Miss Philippines Earth. The agenda was reportedly about the proposal of holding the pageant in Mindanao.

This would be the fifth time that Miss Earth would be held outside of Manila. In 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2015, the pageant was held in Pampanga; Boracay; Nha Trang, Vietnam; and Vienna, Austria – respectively. The next pageant is scheduled on October 15.

This may also be the first time that Miss Earth would not include a swimsuit competition as Davao has an policy against this in beauty contests. The ABS-CBN report said that Shuck would honor this.

An Instagram photo from Maria Isabel Lopez, actress and Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2015, showed Angelia Ong with the tourism secretary at a “courtesy call.”

Imelda Schweighart, the recently crowned Miss Philippines Earth, would be competing for a third straight crown in the 2016 pageant.

The Philippines is also being eyed as the possible host country for the next Miss Universe pageant. – Rappler.com
