Ms PH Earth 2013 LIVE poll results

MANILA, Philippines –  In line with the Miss Philippines Earth 2013 pageant’s water conservation theme, this 18-year-old college student says, “Trash not our waters; they are the source of livelihood of many fishermen and eco-tourism guides.”

Describe your childhood/growing-up years (8-13 years old):

I grew up loving nature and my environment. My parents allowed me to explore the place where we lived. That was the reason why I had so many friends. My parents always made sure my siblings and I had a good education. I also love reading but had nobody to share my passion with since I’m the only girl in our family.

Most memorable moment:

When I was crowned Miss Cabanatuan 2013.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?

Several years ago, calamities struck my hometown, Nueva Ecija: typhoons, storms, and flashfloods. The flashflood in 2007 was one of the worst tragedies that hit my province. From this experience, a question popped in my head: “How can one prevent these calamities from coming?”

We can’t stop natural disasters from coming, but we can be stronger and able to withstand them by taking great care of our environment. My advocacy would be cleaning of drainages, tree planting, and opposition against mining and illegal logging as ways to prevent flashfloods. You, everyone, and I can be the start of change for healthier and safe living.
